dvd drive cannot read dvd-roms but can read dvd-r

    i dont understand this
    according to the program that tells u what kind of dvd formats your dvd drive can read, mine can read dvd-r and dvd+rw, yet it cannot read or even recognize dvd-roms and other formats, only those two, is it possible that i dont have the correct drivers and codecs??
    i hope my dvd drive isnt defective
    please help

    Hi, I had a glitchy drive recently in a brand new compaq laptop, reading different types of media, i sent it back to compaq, under warranty. As far as i know they updated the bios, which fixed the problem. Just a thought, good luck.
