dvd drive doesn't burn after XP re-install

    I had to reinstall Windows XP after a crash. Since then Nero will not recognise my Sony RW DW-U10A as a DVD or CD burner. Nor will DVD Decrypter. The drive will read CD files fine. It also appears to be fine in Device Manager. I have tried updating the driver software. I tried using Nero Info tool - this shows the drive on the Configuration tab, but not in the drop down menu above the tabs.

    Anyone able to help?

    I had a same problem after a reinstall, except that I could burn, just only at 2.4x. I did a fully clean reinstall after spending hours trying to diagnose, and everything came back normal. This was a full re-format and partition, not a repair.

    While I doubt this helps, I hope it does.

    Have you checked you hve the correct ASPI layer installed? And possibly updte the firmware.

    I agree.... check aspi - grab dvd software specifically for WinXP - make sure you are SP1 too

    Are you using Nividia drivers for your Ide channels?
