I am running Windows XP. Today I used ImgBurn to copy a disc to my hard drive and it worked perfectly as usual. Then the CD drive froze up completely, no light, no nothing. I managed to extract the disc using the paper clip method but now it seems totally dead, will not go in or eject, the icon has disappeared from My Computer and the drive from Device Manager as well. Rebooting and a system restore achieved nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

If the power is connected to the burner and you push the eject button on it, then it should respond - even if it's not connected to the motherboard.
You have to open up the PC and check the connectors.
