My Matrix modchip came dislodged and I took apart my Xbox to reseat it. Now, my DVD drive has gone crazy! It'll play for a minute and just spit out with the disc still spinning, tt'll open on bootup, it'll close by itself, and it'll open and close very slowly.
I'm wondering if it's my DVD drive or something with my modchip. The same behavior occurs with the chip removed, but it happened when I cracked the case open (again). Maybe just coincidence.
So what's the verdict...chip or drive or something else?
    Anybody seen this behavior?

I'm going to connect a PC DVD drive this evening to see if that'll work for me. Maybe I'll consider a real replacement drive if I can determine that it's the drive.

What's the BT? I tried a PC drive and it didn't work. The issue is that the drive is detected as being open (because it opens on it's own still). I found that what controls the eject is on the yellow cable.

thekingo7 is on the ball, you CANNOT use a pc drive to replace the xbox dvd drive due to the fact is it not designed to read the f-ing disc's it's like hooking up a cable modem using usb w/o installing drivers, the pc knows it's there, but has no freaking clue what it's used for, same thing goes here, pc dvd drives will not work unless ur a pc genius at hardmods/softmods

congrads, you were able to identify that the ONLY cable other than the ide that's connected to the drive controls the open/close functions, word to the wise, don't give useless info to those who more than you, not trying to be mean even though it seems that way, but ur a newb so you have to take it :p

as for the actual problem, most likley the chip, is it soldered or solderless, how did it become dislodged, was it dropped? need more info

Well my samsung dvd drive has gone crazy too. Someone told me that the drive is near death.
I insert a game then close the drive and it opens by itself right quick and it does that like 3 times then the 4th time it recognizes the media.

Well try cleaning the lense, and while your in there you could try looking for any physical issues like pieces of broken plastic. Or jsut buy a new drive.
