I was burning movies with no problems until last week. Now it seems as though I'm having problems with my drive, that half the time I put a cd into my drive and the computer doesn't read it. Is my drive all wacky now? Any suggestions, PLEASE?!?!!!

Hmmm... I don't think I loaded any new software, but I can't be positive.

The drive either takes a really long time to load, or it doesn't read at all. Before I could at least burn the DVDs onto my computer, but it doesn't seem to want to do that now.

My disks haven't changed from what I used before, although it is a new batch.

I'm thinking about redoing my computer, but I have to wait until I get another computer to hook up to. I have too many songs to lose (2500)!!!!

Thanks for the help, hopefully we can figure this out.....

    hi

this new batch did you buy from the same place? do the first batch discs read in your computer still/now?

i would check your dma settings in device manager make sure your in DMA mode and not PIO

have you nero incd loaded by any chance?

use dvd identifier or dvdinfopro or dvd decrypter to check the id codes of 1 of the first batch of discs to one now if it will read them now??

could be your motherbaord drivers need updating, go to makers website and get latest versions

try updating your firmware for the drive, it sometimes helps reading more discs/media

is your aspi layer installed and working correctly?

Ok, the batch of cds is from the same place, Wal-Mart. They are Maxell, but I have used Memorex as well. Both have worked at one point.

I tried burning an MP3 cd with ITunes and came across a "4450 Error" to which it wouldn't burn either. Could be a totally seperate problem.

I seem to be in DMA mode as well.

I shouldn't have any Nero on my computer as well.

Lastly, my motherboard, firmware, and aspi should all be good to go.

This is really frustrating! Okay, I'm having a brainfart right now, but if I was going to redo my computer, what would I need? I was looking through my computer papers/disks and I can't seem to find the Windows XP disk(s) for my HP Pavilion 2720n. Do I need this to reformat my computer? Did they come with these disks or have I misplaced them?

I could really use some help. If anyone is willing to help me outside of this board, please let me know, I would appreciate anything! Thank you!

I don't think I got these cds, and when I went under my HP Tools to create Recovery disks, an error occurred writing these disks. Something is really haywire with my drive.... ????
