a few days ago a friend of mine had my laptop, when he brought it back, it couldnt play DVDs or CDs right. the video and sound are both really choppy...so do you think its just because its a few years old and having problems or what? in case it matters i have xp home, and only 256mb ram because i had to remove another 256 when it went bad. thanks for any help
in that time did it get dropped? did microsux have any new updates? recently after ms did a new update I couldn't play divx files had to do a complete reinstall because it broke the codec. Lastly is you video adapter using shared memory from your ram (integrated video card)this could slow down your dvd playback. A little more info and model would be good.
im thinking it is the ram i took out, when my friend took it home he said it would play without it, but hes an idiot anyways. also its an hp laptop, thats about all i know, but it only has 256mb ram now and has xp so its probably the problem. oh and one more question, when i look at the system properties, the processor will be anywhere from 498mhz to 1.98ghz, why is that?
can you do me a favor go to pcpitstop.com and run a the full test they have there my open log in is elliott78212@hotmail.com, the password is elliott6583 all my customers go there so I can help them it will run a scan on your pc let me know what model and other details. I will check it later and get back to you as I have to run off and do some christmas shopping or look on the bottom of you hp and get the model # and series # that would help too but you are most likely running an ati video card on shared memory and need the extra ram.
Well if it hasn't played since the RAM was removed; then it's a no brainer that the removed RAM is the problem and needs to be replaced!!
