Ok I have an DVD/CD burning drive and i had a CD drive. My DVD/CD drive for some reason only reads only CDs? The setting say CD drive and i have the lastest updates also............please help.
what is the make & model# of the cd/dvd drive as it is possible it is a combo drive that reads dvds but burns cds. what burning program are you using & do you have the latest updates for it?? what dvd disks were you trying to burn??
The drive is an HP DVD Writer 400c. Like i know it like reads and burn DVDs, but like right now Its not even seeing the dvd when i put it in. I downloaded the lastest updates from HP also.
is there an exclamation mark in device manager? try uninstalling the drive in device manager than restart windows so it can load correct driver.
what drives are on what ide ports & what are the jumper configurations such as master, slave or cable select??
i have the very same problem. i have a dvd re write and cd writer combined. and a dvd rom drive as well the dvd writer now will not read dvds, just cds if i put a dvd in the drive it just says cd writer, when i eject the dvd it says its a dvd/cd rw ive read and written loads of dvds with this drive but now i think its bust. tried new firmware etc, been reading around the net and mine stopped working after installing SP 2. like i say do not think im thick and start telling me its software etc. i have used all the dvd writer software on my pc with this drive. but now it doesnt work, so yes it did work before any help would be good mines a phillips dvd8421, but its a hp machine came as standard with the pc i think its still under warrenty becuase ive had it less than a year, so if its screwed ill get on to hp im not hijacking the thread but if both of us can get help then it would be great
I have a similar problem, dvd drive reads CDs without fault but will not even register that a DVD is present. not only that but my system hangs up untill the DVD is removed from the drive, if i boot my PC up with a DVD in the drive windows (XP) will not load. I do not have details on model, but i know it is made by Mercury, whom i can find no info on. it is master on my second ide and was previously fully functional, sorry for the lack of info on it but i have tryed. if anyone can suggest any reasons why it would perform like this i would be most thankful.
does the computer see the drive & is there an exclamation mark in device manager?? uninstall the drive in device manager than restart windows so it can load it's own driver.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled drivers. it is functioning properly accordin to windows device man. It shows up in My Computer and cd reading capabillities are fine. Just no DVDs...
check the drive manufacturer for possible firmware upgrade which is about the same as bios update for your motherboard
Cheers mate, is upgrading firmware as risky as bios updates? if by bios updates u meen bios flashing...
