I received a replacement 360 a little while ago and when I try to eject the tray it seems to catch on something or not working right with the motor inside. I have to press on the tray or tap on it to get it to pop out most of the time. Is there any easy solution to fixing this problem without having to void my system?
I had one like that, someone told me to just leave a game inside at all times and it would work. I think it has something to do with the weight of the disc helping it.
It doesn't seem to be the faceplate, I left it off and tried the eject button and it still likes to stick most the time. Now that you mention it, it does work a lot more when a disc is still in the tray. I wonder if the tray is angled in the drive wrong or something?
i had this happen once on one of mine i replaced the elastic band and it worked fine after that look on youtube for a tutorial it is really easy if you have a small hooked screwdriver.
It is in fact the rubber band that moves the tray open. I picked up about 100 on ebay for under 15$ . Real simple fix and lasts for a while. Heat makes the rubber band expand and thus loose its "snap" I belive they need to be around 17mm - I believe stock is around 20 mm ,I go a bit smaller for a nicer fit.
Ah, I went on youtube and found several videos on how to remove the rubber band. In all of them they claim you should just have to wash it, as it "most likely has become dirty and won't get a good grip". Would cleaning the band really do the trick or should I just try to order some bands on eBay?
I have had it work every time for me. The rubber belt starts to harden up and can be dirty. I have always heated up some water in the microwave and then put the rubber belt in the water for 10 minutes or so. Then put back on the drive and works every time.
To see you over the short term until you get a replacement just take the drive apart and carefully remove the band with tweezers or thin nose pliers and soak it in hot (as in just boiled) water for a few minutes. This should have removed enough grease and reconditioned the band for continued use until your order comes in.
As a responsible parent i must highlight the dangers in using boiling water and promote the safe use of said liquid and the use of adequate protective clothing, eyeware and shoes....... lmao

If cleaning the belt doesn't help, try cleaning the worm motor( the coily screw looking thing that pushes the tray out) of dust and debris. Then regrease with lithium grease (radio shack) and you should be golden. I haven't ever gotten a drive too far gone to save yet. -MG
