I had old old Kodak celluloid filmes which have been converted by a commercial service into a dvd. I now want to edit these into a very short dvd. I have a dvd burner called "LG" and neoDVDplus5 .... Can anyone plse help, I am in a panic since I need to show this short dvd in 1 week!! Dino
Do you just want to take clips from this DVD and burn them on to a blank? If thats all you want to do, then DVD Shrink with DVD Decrypter can do this. If you need to add audio and other stuff then you will need something like Adobe Premiere which is expensive and takes a while to learn. I couldn't find much information on neoDVDplus5 so I don't know if that will work. If it is just clips from the original you want, download DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. Free programs, find them here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/ They way this works is to use Shrink to cut out the clips you want and put each one in a folder on your hard drive. Once that is completed, Shrink is used to assemble all the clips into a compilation. You do not have to open Decrypter at all, Shrink will open it when it is needed. Decrypter is used in this process to burn your disc. It is not going to decrypt anything. In fact you will not even open Decrypter once you have it installed. Shrink will open it when it is needed to begin the burn process. All you have to do is watch. Before you begin: Blank media: You have to determine which format your burner uses +R or -R. It may be compatible with both. Use DVD R/W discs. These are erasable, rewritable discs that can be used over many times. Good for learning. Buy high quality media only. Computer stuff: Do normal maintenance, Defrag HDD, disc clean up virus scan, etc. Check your IDE transfer mode, you should have DMA enabled on your primary and secondary IDE busses. If you don't know about this, do a search for DMA. Get familiar with DVD Shrink: http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php Do the tutorials here to become familiar with the program. The first three should be enough. This is how I do a compilation of clips with Shrink/Decrypter: Put in the source disc and open Shrink, select "Open Disc". Shrink Analyzes for a few moments, When thats done, Select re-author. Double click a title on the right to move it to the compilation window on the left. Click on the opposing horizontal blue arrows to open the start/end feature. Use the top slider and buttons to set the beginning of my first clip, use the bottom slider and buttons to set the end of the clip. Click on OK. Click on backup! Set the target device to Hard Disc Folder Give the clip a name, Mine looks like this: C:\MOVIES\matrix_test_1 Once the first clip is done, use the red x above the compilation window to remove the first clip. Double click the title on the left again to move it into the window on the right. Repeat the process with the Start/End feature to get the second clip. Put it on the hard drive like the first one. My second clip is called C\MOVIES\matrix_test_2 so all I had to do is change the 1 to a 2. I Continue this process until all the clips are on the hard drive. To assemble the clips into one compilation: NOTE: I leave the last clip in the compilation window because there is no point in removing it. I have to have it there as part of the compilation. Click on the browser menu on the right. Use it to find the drive where the clips are stored. Mine are on C:\ so I click on C:\. Below is a folder called MOVIES, double click it. All my clips appear: matrix_test_1 matrix_test_2 matrix_test_3 matrix_test_4 I double click the first one and it opens as Title 1. I drag it over so it is a bit above the title thats still in the compilation window. Repeating this process with the rest of the clips, dragging them so they are in the order I want them to play. The compilation window now looks like this: Title 1 Title 1 (2) Title 1 (3) Title 1 (4) If I want Title 1 (3) to play first, I just drag it to the top: Title 1 (3) Title 1 Title 1 (2) Title 1 (4) To preview, I click on the "DVD" just above the titles, selecting the entire compilation, Then I sart the preview window. Once this is done, its time to burn the compilation! I Select Backup! Target Device: ISO DISC Image, below that, I check the box to "Launch Decrypter to burn the output stage". I put a blank disc in the burner, give it a moment to spin up then select OK. Shrink/Decrypter will do the rest. If I'm burning at 2X the copy will be done in about 30 minutes. Well thats about how I do it. It takes a lot longer to type this than to actually create the compilation. With this method you do not have any options to add audio, special effects or menus. Just a bunch of clips that play in sequence. Cheers, Frank
fasfrank, this is great information!!! I will try it tonite. i am trying to get clips of my sons childhood, and make perhaps a 5 minute dvd to show,-- can you beleive it?--at his upcoming wedding, hence the panic. Thanks so much Another question:: Is there a way to take this dvd and convert it to an mpeg1 file so that I can use windows moviemaker? Dino
Frank, sorry to bother you, and hope you dont have to type so much again, BUT I went thru the tutorials for DVD shrink etc. They tell you how to get rid f languages and other features, but mine is a homemade dcd (VOB file) and I just want to take a few seconds here and a few seconds there, and create a 10 minute dvd out of two hours of DVD. CAN YOU HELP,? I AM IN PANIC!!
I just wanted you to look at the tutorials to get familiar with Shrink. I described how to use Shrink to remove clips in my post. What exactly are we working with here? is this a DVD SVCD or a VCD? Please open the disc in explorer and tell me if it has a VIDEO_TS folder. Have you tried opening this disc in Shrink?? Here is a DVD/VOB to mpeg converter if you want to use Windows Movie Maker. This thing costs 30.00 but may be just what you need. http://yasasoft.com/magicdvdripper/ Giving yourself a week to do this kind of thing is fine if you have done it before, however I'm reluctant to give you a bunch of different programs that need to be learned, and then have you engage in a multi program process to do this. My biggest problem is that I don't know what you are starting with. Please answer the question I asked. If you can get this thing into Shrink, that is the easiest way to do this project. I'm hesitant to give you more complex procedures because you did not understand that the Shrink procedure I wanted you to try was in my post and not the tutorials: I thought I made it clear that I was going to describe to you how I do this. From my original reply: So if you can't load your disc into Shrink then try the converter and use WMM. Let me know how this goes. Please, make sure you give me the info I need to help.
I am definitely working with DVD and I have a folder called VIDEO_TS, for sure and inside this folder are files called VOB_1, VOB_2 etc. (this dvd was made by a commercial service from old old celluloid films.) I downloaded the DVD shrink but I cannot download the DVD-Decrypter. It keeps on saying: "...couldnot be opened because an unknown error occured. save to a disk and then open the file. I have saved to my hard drive, and I have double clicked many folders in there, ... but how so I open this? There doesnot seem to be an .exe file in there. YOUR INSTRUCTIONS ON USING THE DVD SHRINK ARE CLEAR AND SIMPLE, BUT I DIDNOT TRY IT SINCE I AM SUPPOSED TO HAVE DVD DECRYPTER ALSO.I I do appreciate your patience.
The good news is that you should be able to open the DVD in Shrink. You need to try this, even without Decrypter installed. This is the first step. I would see if NeoDVDplus5 can burn the compilation. If it has a way to open and burn DVD files on your hard drive then it should work. So do the first step. Put your disc in, open Shrink, select open disc at the top. What I would like you to do is try and get the entire disc to a location on your hard drive. This is a practice rip Once that is done, try and open your burning program if you are still unable to install Decrypter. Try to burn the entire DVD to a blank disc. If you can complete this practice burn, then go ahead and use the procedure I described in my first reply to create a compilation and then burn it. A Decrypter installation goes like this: Go to download site and start the download, choosing a location to save the file. After the download is completed, select "open". The installation wizard opens. Just select a full install, the default installation locations are usually OK, just install it like any other program. If you get that far that is the complete installation. You will not have to open it. Shrink will do that for you at the correct time. If you still have problems installing Decrypter, then we have a bunch of work to get the fixed too! I know we are running out of time, but there is not much I can do about that. I am located on the west coast of the U.S., and if I am not mistaken, you are in Italy. This is the problem I am having with NeoDVDplus5, everything I find about it is in Italian! Which I can't read. I hope we can complete this project but if not, it was not from lack of effort. If you have computer and program problems then that is really going to put an end to this project, given the time limitations. Cheers, Frank
I did the practice rip, but the dvd shrink drop down menu gives me ONLY ONE CHOICE TO SAVE THE MOVIE AND THAT IS THE SAME AS MY DVD DRIVE. tHE PROGRAM WENT THRU "aNALYSING " SUCCESSFULLY AND i CAN "OPEN DVD" OR EVEN THE "REAUTHOR " BUTTON WORKED. But i still donot know how to make segments of the dvd for assembly!! Another question: Is there any way to convert this dvd with VIDEO_TS AND vob FILES INTO AN mPEG FILE SO THAT i CAN JUST USE THE wINDOWS MOVIEKAER?? By the way i am in Canada east coast. And I bought the Neo DVD from a local store, so information should be available in English. With the NeoDVD I also got some programs called BHA GOLD, which can easily DUPLICATE an entire dvd but I cannot cut and splice!!! Thanks and best Regards
Hi Dino, This is how you use Shrink to make the clips, This is from my first post. You do have to be able to put the folders on your hard drive, so you need to set that as your target. I just want to verify that you are in the right location where this setting is made: This setting is made after clicking "Backup!" The window that appears is "Backup DVD", which shows a series of tabs. The first tab is "Target Device" On this tab, find "Select target device:" Using the drop down arrow on the right, two selections are available. The two selections are "hard disc folder" and "ISO disc Image". Once this is set to hard disc folder, select your "target folder for DVD output files". I recommend that you click on your C drive then select "make a new folder". Name this folder "Movie_clips" Click on your Movie_clips folder and select "make a new folder" again. Name this folder clip_1. NOTE: If a third choice is available, (your DVD burner) then you have burning with Nero enabled. You can go back and select Edit-> Preferences-> File I/O and uncheck the box that enables burning with Nero. This will remove your DVD burner as a target device. As long as it is NOT selected as a target device then this should not be a problem. Let me help you visualize how this Shrink clip process works: Suppose I have a movie that is one hour long. The clip I want is 1 minute long, located 30 minutes from the beginning. Using the start slider and buttons, I advance the start of the movie 30 minutes forward, to the start of my clip. Next, using the "end" slider and buttons, I back up the ending of the movie 29 minutes, to the point where my clip ends. So now all that is left is the 1 minute long clip. ( I look at the movie in the preview window when I'm doing this so I can see the start and end points) This process can be repeated very quickly, backing up several individual clips to folders on the hard drive. The clips can be as short as 15 frames, which is just a few seconds. Using this method I can usually do 10 to 15 clips in about 30 minutes, compile them and then burn. I know you want to do this using Windows Movie Maker so I'll post again a bit later. BTW that BHA gold conflicts with many programs. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]motorcycle racer computer newbie Sony VAIO Suzuki GSXR1000 [/small]
I use this converter to get DVD into Windows Movie maker happy format (Mpeg-1) http://www.allthesoft.com/multimedia/video/dvd-to-mpeg/ You have to buy it to have it actually work. One other thing: I used this program to convert movie clips that are on my hard drive. This is how I have it set under Options: Speed: Normal MPEG: MPEG-1 Caption: Blank Audio: 0:??? Screen: Full Pieces: 700 MB/file Width: 720 height: 480 The odd thing is that to test this program, I used a bunch of clips I made with Shrink. As far as I'm concerned, it would be a lot easier to just make a compilation in Shrink, without the conversion. However I do like the transitions and effects in WMM so I added some of those. My little test project used four clips, about 2 to 3 minutes each. It took about 4 to 6 minutes to convert each clip. The converter works really well but you have to use the correct settings. It took me about five minutes to figure out which settings would work. The default settings do not. WMM will give you a "WMM has encountered an error and has to close" error if you don't set the files up in a format that WMM can digest. Cheers, Frank
