i have tried just about everything out there as far as burning programs. Shrink, clonedvd2, dvddecrypter,etc... i am using ty discs. i have updated all my firmware for my drives. I have tried everything all the programs i have are all upto date.the newest everything! and still i get 1 or 2 freezes or skips on just about every movie i burn that i own. does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go from here? running xp pro with sony and lite on drives.
Out of curiousity, what speed do you burn at? If it is 4x or higher I suggest slowing it down too 2x and see if that dosent help.
One question, that may sound dumb, what's the bitrate of your movies? It's happened the same to me with movies with a bitrate of over 7,000 bps playing on my stand alone player. As a suggestion you should stay below 6,000 bps if possible To check your bitrate, you can use Avicodec
I have the same problem. Sorry but the bitrate is not part of my problem and nor is the write speed because I tried times 2 and that didn't work. I use imation disks and Roxio DVD copy can anyone help??
I was not aware of the importance of bitrate until rebootjim put me into the matter. It's to take into consideration... usually worth a check prior to burning
k0k0m0, you said to check my bitrate how do i go about doing that? and you say i can use Avicodec to do it? Right? isnt that a program to convert files with? If so will give me my bitrate as well? If it is over 7000bps how do i get it below 6000bps? Do you check the disc i am about to copy or the blank?
I feel your pain.........went through the same BS! You mentioned that you had a Lite-On DVD/RW......so did I......and that was my problem! As soon as I replaced that with the Plextor PX-716A, every backup copy is perfect......not one flaw! In case you're wondering, I use DVD Shrink 3.2 and Nero (latest version).
mgdking, AVICodec is, AFAIK, a tool for getting details out from video & audio files (AVI, MPG, MPV, M2V, etc) such as duration, bitrate, resolution, etc etc Check this picture, it's of a file from mine . Can you see that on the Video row, inside a red rectangle, there's 5000 Kbps??? That's the bitrate I was referring to. It's below 6000 so it's suitable for DVD authoring. (By the way, you can also see this movie is MPEG-2). If you want to learn more, you can check this thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/201723 where rebootjim explains in more detail the problem. Now, to your question how to decrease bitrate? my suggestion is to re-encode your original file to MPEG-2 again and select the option prior to encoding (it depends on your program) Variable bitrate where the maximum should be not above 6000 bps. Hope it helps...
