I am using Main concept to encode to mpeg 2 and then DVDlab Pro automatically demuxes it into the two files. I get a warning saying
"Open GOP's detected" "chapters may not start accuratley" My other problem is that my audio is just a little out of sync. When DVDlab demuxes the file into two, the length of the audio is about 4 secs longer then the video. i.e. 58:35 for video and 58:39 for audio. Does anyone know how to fix this?

The "Open GOP" message is nothing. This just means you are using GOPs that are relying on other GOPs for information. It is probably better in terms of video quality, but I do not know much in this area.

The audio size may be different, but this does not always mean it is out of sync. Play your .mpv file using something like Media Player Classic. This should automatically open your audio file and you will see if it is in sync or not.

Also, IFOEdit is a must for authoring a DVD. After you compile, open the video_ts.ifo with it and click "DVD Play". Go through your dvd's entire structure with it to see if you will have any playback issues. Also you can see if audio and video are in sync after the compile.

Do you have any suggestions on what to do if it is out of sync?

I have not had any problems with audio being out of sync, so I have no experience here. I do use Sony Vegas to encode 5.1 ac3 files though, and that has tons of audio editing capabilities. You can easily move the audio or video around or add blank audio or video to your current files.

You can also change the length of the audio if it is playing faster or slower than the video (basically you can change your audio to be 58:35, but only do that if it is a touch faster than your video). I think you can try it for 30 days almost full featured. I think they would only try to stop you from using the .mp3 and .ac3 ouputs, but I could be wrong.

I do not know of any freeware program that can do a/v sync. I would assume that main concept does a good job though. That is the one that is like $200 right? I am also pretty sure it is the encoder in Sony Vegas and that program was about $600, but I do not remember.

If your original video files were in sync, then there is no reason for the encoded files to be off. I have never had an audio and video file be exaclty the same length, but they are always in sync. Try to comile your movie. It only takes like 15 minutes with dvdlab pro. Then use IFOedit to test the playback like I suggested before.
