    Hello,

I was given a DVD R/RW today and it works fine, except when I went to put the case back on, it didn't fit. So I just took of the cover of the actual thing that comes out (Plastic cover like thing). Just to clear things up I didn't break the thing that closes, so theres no gaping whole its juts that there was a piece of plastic on top of it which was fat. Then I tried again, but still a bit fat( it couldn't even open). So I sanded it down a bit, like 3-4 mm maybe 2. Anyway I put a red line around the edges to make sure when it does close it covers everything up, and it did, but I'm really paranoid about the invisible laser, so I just wanted an expert opinion about it. Heres my question :

Lets just say it didn't cover up the drive when it closed and a bit wasn't covered, would I be exposed to the invisible laser ?

    Thank you
    Max Kreeger

    C'mon, guys. That's a little much.

The answer to your question is probably not. And if you were, just cover up the hole with duct tape. Problem solved.

You can't be serious. Your first post was totally incoherent. You more than likely ruined the drive by doing something you shouldn't have done. Rip it out, and get a new drive.

Allow me to defend JabJab's point here; moreover, please listen before jumping to hasty conclusions.

JabJab showed more creativity with his problem than most of the people here on AD presented with the same problem could even fathom. The others would most likely post with pleas for help prior to even experimenting with their drive. JabJab asked a simple question after identifying and fixing the problem himself and the flames immediately started to raise, and I cannot see why.

The first reason that I could think is that his language is unorganized. Let me answer to this issue by saying the following:

Of the six basic forms of intelligence, the chances of being blessed with all are insanely rare. From what I can tell, though JabJab may lack in the area of linguistic intelligence, he surely made up for it in logical intelligence.

The only other reason I could think for the flames to start is that his question about the laser was "silly"--to which I say it is quite the opposite. Were I to ask a string theorist where the one dimensional strings that form everything in the universe are located, he would laugh the matter off and call me an idiot. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that what may seem like basic knowledge to us is not to all people.

Keep in mind that I have agreed nine out of ten times an "idiot" is flamed, and backed up the older members anytime a newbie claimed the mods and the addicts were being too harsh, but what has gone on in this thread I believe is completely unwarranted. I hope this has been, if not somewhat of a wakeup call, then at least a repeal on behalf of the misrepresented.

Yeah.. he's probably trying to put the thing back together with the bottom plate the wrong way round. 6 parts to a dvd drive.

Wow......Even though I didn't understand some of it. Thank you very much for the defense.
