I have recently encountered 2 different kids movies on DVD that is scratched and has swirl marks on them from a 5-year old handling them. I use 1ClickDVDCopy in combination with ANYDVD,or as a second choice I will use DVD43. I have tried to make a back-up of each of these disc using both programs and after the program starts reading, it starts saying "skipping bad sectors" and will continue this for some time. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I may be able to successfully copy these movies? Thanks in advance for your help!
You can try DVD FabDecrypter it is free and available from http://www.filepedia.com look under rippers. I hear it has better luck with scratched disks than other programs. Otherwise try cleaning it really good, you can even try a spritz of pledge wax and polish and then try it again. If it badly scratched you can opt for Disk Doctor which will repair some disks, or just get another original.
@mwalker13, I have a program that came with the Dvd X COpy platinum (I no longer use this prog.) called DVd Rescue. It does a great job with really scratched disks. Again, it came with a program that is no longer developed. I would suggest Decrypter (ignore read errors) and see if that works, unless you can find the program. I know you can find the old x copy platinum for 20.00...I wouldn't use that prog., but with it you can get Dvd Resuce...works great, takes time as it literally rebuilds the file structure. MovieDud
I don't believe DVD Rescue is available as a standalone program it only comes with Platinum. However if you are going to try that route, then you can give IsoBuster a try it may get through the bad sectors. http://www.filepedia.com/cdr_software/cdr_tools/isobuster.cfm
Thanx arniebear I totally forgot about isobuster. How do you typically handle those types of disks? I have Rescue, but I have read how many use Decrypter (ignore read errors) yet I would think that would corrupt the over all file from being complete! Any ideas? Thanks MovieDud
All the better programs do is attempt to read the sector more times before giving up. Sometimes just taking the disk out to re-examine for any dirt and smudges seeing none and retrying works. I don't know why. This can account for some of the wacky fixes. Never think about scratchs if there is anything on the disk that cn be cleaned off. Hold the disk up to the light and be very careful. Dirt effects the read more than a light scratch. If that does not work buy a little disk grinder. They run about $30 and you can buy them in most video depts. They all work about the same. They are hard on the disk but you can usually get a good read unless the damage is too deep.
