Please Help! I hvae used DVD-DYCRPTER to burn filies on HD so i can than burn with Nero to DVD+/-r. The burning process only works If I veiw movie on pc, however can't get it to play with my DVD player, My DVD player is able to play movies that are coppied from my friends but I can't seem to get it to burn..I am thinking I am not saving it to correct file name that the DVD player reads. If I use Nero it wont allow me to copy files bigger than 2G, and if I save as ISO file the same thing happens. I have only been able to save as a UDF file with Nero but can not view on my DVD player....what am I doing wrong?.

Tyr burning the movie directly to disc instead of to your HD then through Nero. Decrypter will burn well on its own, just select burn with decrypter instead of Nero. Let me know how it goes.

I'm a little unclear on what your exact process is, I suppose you are trying to make a backup of a commercial DVD.
    Just a few points...

If you are backing up a typical commercial movie, then it is a DVD-9. This won't fit on a blank DVD unless you split it to two discs or compress it to fit.

The correct procedure to use Decrypter and Nero Burning ROM to create your back-up is to use the default settings in Decrypter, use the file mode, selecting all the files. (Decrypter will do this by default)
Once Decrypter has placed your movie files on your hard drive, open Nero burning ROM. Select DVD-Video mode
only. Do not relax any restrictions. Follow one of the guides available for Nero 6 Burning ROM. (I posted a guide below)

The outline I just presented is not a guide nor will it work on anything but a commercial DVD-5. A DVD-9 is going to need compressed (or split) so you will use a compression program like DVD Shrink.

If you use Shrink things become a lot easier because you can automate the burn process using either Nero or Decrypter. The way this works is that if the correct boxes are checked, Shrink will open Nero or Decrypter at the appropriate time to start and complete the burn process.

Are you not getting error messages with Nero? Nero will usually prompt you to select the correct mode to use.

Here is a guide for using Nero Burning ROM in the DVD-Video mode. This is used after the movie has been decrypted and compressed using Shrink and the files are on your hard drive.

You should try Shrink if you don't have any other conmpression software. Shrink will work with your current programs and will use either Decrypter or Nero to burn your backup

I hope you meant .. I can't seem to get [bold]mine[/bold] to burn right. I hope your not trying to burn your friends copies. Also could you post your system specs? And the process/programs your using? thanks

I don't think he is trying to copy a copy that would be pretty simple and it sounded like he was saying trying to copy his original, But as you two fine indivduals stated a little unclear?

Hi all thanks for the reply, I am sory that it is unclear, I am actually trying to burn original DVD movies, I do understand files can be to large and may have to split or use shrink. What would be the easisest programme to split DVD-9 movies. I currently have Nero, dycrypter and shrink, but I am finding it so hard to use. I can copy file to computer but can't get it to burn to DVD-R.

For Example I have used dycrypter to copy DVD-move, I selected File. Once all the file were copied I then used Nero DVD UDF to copy to DVD-R, but wsn't able to view it on my DVD player, only on PC, as mentioned maybe I should try DVD-Vdeo to copy DVD movie. I just get all confused with Files and what files is the correct format etc to use with the programmes I have

How do I automate the service between shrink and Nero so they can work together, what usually happens is that it can only handle 2G, and it is very hard to compress a movie to 2G with shrink.

    vferrer,

    Could you post your specs?

    Now using Shrink w/ Decrypter
    1) Open shrink, open disc
    2) Click "backup!"
    3) Change target destination to "ISO Image File", and check the box to Launch DVD Decrypter
    4) Click ok

    Using Shrink w/ Nero
    1) Open Shrink, click edit, then preferences
    2) Under the File I/O tab, check the box to Enable burning with Nero
    3) Open disc, click "backup!"
    4) Change target destination to your burner
    5) Click ok.

With an ISO, choose burn image in Nero. What version of Nero are you using? Good luck ... Hope this helps.

vferrer, I am going to ask you a few questions and make a few comments. OK? I apologize in advance if I cover stuff you already know.

Here's what I know so far:
You have a computer of some sort.
You have some version of Nero, could be Nero 5, could be Nero 6.
    You have DVD Decrypter.
You have some version of DVD Shrink.
You desire to make a copy of your commercial DVD-9 movie.
You are kind of confused about what programs are needed and why you would use them.
Your copy only plays on your computer.

On your next post I would like to see the following:

    PC make and model
    Processor type and speed
    Amount of RAM
    Hard Drive size
    File format (FAT or NTFS)
DVD burner make and model number
DVD ROM (if any) make and model number
Do you have any external drives?
What version of Nero do you have? (Mine, for example, is 6.3.1.15)
What version of DVD Shrink do you have?
What version of Decrypter do you have?
What is the brand and format of your blank media?

OK, let me explain a few things about copying DVDs and the programs you have, what you normally do with them and what they can and cannot do.

This is what you want to do:
    Encrypted, commercial DVD-9 ->->->-> unencrypted DVD-5 copy.

So it is clear that you can't just copy a commercial DVD, it's to big and they encrypted it so you can't copy it.

Thats where our little DVD programs come in and there are a whole bunch of them available. You have three good ones that are easy to use with a bit of practice.

Three basic things need to happen to make a copy of your DVD-9:

    1. Ripping, which is the process of defeating the encryption on the DVD-9.

    2. Compression, this process reduces the size of your movie from about 8 gigabytes to about 4.36 gigabytes so it will fit on your blank disc.

3.Burning places your ripped and compressed movie onto a blank disc, in a form that is DVD-Video compliant. That is the only kind of DVD your DVD player will play.

Each program you have can do one or more of the above. Each program has features that you may need or prefer. All three things must happen.

DVD Shrink can do #1 and #2. Shrink, by itself can create a set of decrypted files that will fit on a blank DVD-5.

DVD Decrypter can do #1 and #3.

Nero... Nero is not just one program. Different Nero programs can do different things.

    Nero Burning ROM does #3.
    Nero Recode 2 does #2 and #3.

All three things have to happen to copy your movie. It appears to me that you were:

    1. Skipping #2 by using Decrypter and Nero only.
    2. It was not going to work anyhow because:
    a. You are having trouble with files over 2 gb.
    b. You are not using Nero correctly. (Thats why I want to know the version!)

Typical ways these programs are used together:

    1. Shrink for #1 and #2 then Nero Burning ROM for #3. This method is generally used to create and burn a Video_TS folder.

    2. Shrink for #1 and #2 then DVD Decrypter for #3. This method is used to create an .iso image which is the only thing Decrypter can burn.

    NOTE:
These two methods can be automated in Shrink. (See flip's reply) When this is done correctly, Shrink will open the selected programs for you. All you do is just insure that you have the programs installed on your computer so Shrink can find them.

When you use this method you will see the Shrink encoding process end and then the selected burning program will pop up and the burn process will start. (as long as you have a blank in your burner, of course!) All you do is watch.

    I almost forgot.....
    3. DVD Decrypter for #1 and Nero Recode 2 for #2 and #3. Another popular method.

You can see that Shrink is the main program for the first two methods. Use the link I posted in my first reply to find Shrink tutorials. They will help. Let me know if you have read them. Homework, hehe.

Do not get confused by the names; Shrink can decrypt as well as compress, Decrypter can burn as well as decrypt!

Well thats enough for now. Please answer those questions and study the tutorials. We have to know you are using the programs correctly and what you are using them on before we can actually figure out what your specific problem is. Feel free to make a long reply, I do.

    Cheers,

Thanks Guys..you have all been a great help....finaly I have been able to burn my first DVD-backup and it works on my DVD-player. The next step that I need to resolve is DVD-9 movies. What programms can I use to split up the movie to fit on 2 DVD or to compress it that will work with DVD-DYcrypter. I am able to copy with Dycrypter, however after I have creted the Video_TS file I am unable to open it with Shrink to compress it to fit on one CD, this is cause of copy protection..I think!......what other programme can I use that will work together with Dycrypter that will compress or split the DVD-9 movie into 2 DVD-R. Also can you purchase a dvd that is able to hole up to 8-9G. Sorry I am not to familiar with what is availabe.

No, once ripped it becomes unencrypted. Open Shrink and choose open files. then browse for you video_ts file, and open.

Yes, its called a dual layer disk. They are new to the market, discs are hard to come by... and cost alot of money. Plus you'll need a dual layer burner.

    Hi guys,

vferrer, I really did not explain how to split a disc brcause IMHO it is a waste of DVDs in most cases.

    I thought I explained DVD-9 to DVD-5 when I posted:
Read the guides and tutorials I posted links to.

    http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php

Please read flip's and my replys carefully and you can see that all the answers are there. Look closely, and again, Follow the Link to the guides! Take notes.
