DVD playback problems on Sony DVP-NS430

Hi guys,
This is a problem my friend is having, but I'm trying to help him out.

He has got some recorded episodes of CH4 (uk) of a program called "garth Merenghis' Dark Place". They are in the correct format and work with front-end menu, in the pc.

using the Sony DVP-NS430, which has played backup dvd and svcd fin in the past, the dvd seems to play in ffwd, imagine the chipmunks for audio and jet Li for movement speed.

I suggested it could be incompatible media (long shot), I re-burnt it for him and one of my red datawrite dvd-rs and he tried that instead and it resulted in the same thing.

I tried again for him but this time recording at 2x instead of 4x...same thing!!!

media tried : red datawrites (-r) Philips +r and verbatim -r.

Speeds tried : 2x , 2.4x and 4x.

The player has worked before with backups, just not this one and he hasnt seen the full series, hence the required help.
