I'm tyring to help a friend of mine with his PC.
When he tries to play a DVD (back up copy or the real deal) it pays good for 2 or 3 sec freezes and makes a popping sound then it starts playing fine again for 2 or 3 sec again. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks
    P.S. he has 768megs of ram,1.2gig cpu,128meg video card

dont know what to say, you have all the requirements that would be needed to play a dvd, do you have all the necessary decoders installed...

what exactly happens when you start playing it....

does it happen with original disc....

you may be using crappy media...

Well I'm not sure on the decoders but it dose it with a non back up DVD like a store bought movie. Its kinda like when you streaming music on a 56k phone line and it keeps trying to buffer it.

have you got DMA enabled, to check:

    go to control panel,
    go to system,
    go to the hardware tab,
    go to Device Manager,
    open the tree called: [bold]IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers[/bold],
    open [bold]Primary IDE Channel[/bold],
    go to advanced settings tab,
for device 0 and device 1, in the selection box for both select [bold]DMA if available[/bold]

back in device manager repeat theis for [bold]Secondary IDE Channel[/bold]...

this should fix your problem if it is not already selected...

    otherwise is your drive faulty...

    have you got any viruses...

    have you got any spyware/malware...

have you got a ram freeing program to allow enough memory to be used...

have you checked with nero drive speed that your drive is set to its max...

otherwise get back to me and i will try and help you further...
