dvd players

    can your normal living room dvd players play dual layer dvds i have tried to do a back up but player gets stuck after reading the first layer.
    any info appraciated.

    Yes they play or should, mine does. Sometimes the software that sets up the DL recording or the burner software can be the fault.

    Hi witton. Burning to DVD DL media is relatively new. That's why many pre 2004 standalone DVD players may have problems with it. If your burner can booktype DVD+ DL media, then that would help with this compatibility issue.

    Some burners are very picky about which DL media you use. Most burners seem to handle Verbatim the best. I know my BenQ can't do Ritek DVD+ DL media. It will burn the first layer fine then choke when it reaches the second layer. In this case I made sure my firmware was updated and it still did not work.
