DVD shrink unable to work with a particular prerecorded DVD. Disc will play on Win Media Player and home DVD player but Nero can't play. Any suggestions?

If it is a commercial disc then you need something to break the copyright, for this I would suggest d/l a free 21 day trial of AnyDVD, available from slysoft site.

Tried using DVD Decrypter NG. Didn't make any difference. Tried another machine NG.
BTW, got message unable to read Drive:x and cyclic redundancy check when trying DVD Shrink. Google says defective DVD. There are some scratches on disc but I've copied worse... I guess these scratches must have cut through the jugular!

Scratches cause CRCs and it depends on the type and angle of the scratch. If it is deep, and goes in the direction the disc spins, even a small scratch on an otherwise virgin disc will stop most ripping programs. You can set DVD Decrypter to do a retry attempt of 2 instead of the default 20 times and this speeds things up a bit. That and having the ignore read errors button checked. Its only good if the damaged area is small. I once left a disc running overnight with Decrypter trying to read thru damaged areas. After 9 hours, i gave up and let it rest. Those commercial disc cleaners may or maynot work. Sometimes they just mess up the whole disc. I would try cleaning the disc always wiping from inner hub to outer ring, never in the direction of disc spin. A CRC error for a ripping program may still play in a computer or player, with a pause/freeze, or pixilation at that part, it just cant be copied.
Get another disc with little or no scratches, and make a master copy that never gets played, only copied. Clones of the master can be used and abused. Whenever i buy a DVD, i make a copy of it, and use that in my players. The original/master DVD will stay perfect unless a nuke hits nearby.
