I got a (2 years old) Memorex DVD+-RW drive. I used to be able to burn DVDs, but now when trying to burn a DVD after a couple of months, I get a Power-calibration error in Nero..

I can read/write CDs just fine, and can read DVDs fine as well. But can't write on the many brands of DVD+R disc I tried..always failing in the lead-in part.

I also tried other software; same results.

Any advice on what the problem may be?

Your firmware on your burner is really old, so it is not recognizing any media, current is 1.72. Download and flash your drive and see if that works.

Also DMA is off on your DVD-Rom drive you can read the guide on how to fix this.

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf

Try and free up some more memory by not mulit-tasking, internet surfing or running unnecessary programs in the background.

Also you may want to update your Nero

Power calibration error is one of the first signs your burner is about to die. There are other reasons like a dirty laser lens and bad media, but I suspect it's the drive. Some of the things I did which helped was burning discs at slower speeds like 4X and only burning as soon as I booted because I think the summer heat also affected it. But I'd look to replace the drive. A good one is only about $35-$40 at Newegg.com.

I updated the firmware to the 1.72 version, and now it works! Thanks for that!
