Is there really a difference between the two of these DVD+Rs? Is it possible to change the recording speed with DVDXCOPY like older VCRs back in the day, ie SLP, EP, etc...?? It seems that XCOPY decides if it's going to be 1 or 2 discs from the beginning w/o knowing what the DVD+R is going to be. Someone please help us!
As I understand it, it would be impossible to record 4 hours onto a 4.7Gb without compressing the data you are recording by a factor of a half, which would be a pretty serious quality degradation not to mention a good 10 hours + of re-encoding! You can however get double sided 4.7GB discs (or 9.4Gb as they are calling them) giving you 120mins (2 hours) per side giving a total of 4hours. As to DVDX-Copy it simply decides how many discs to use based on the size of the original disc you insert to backup. If its +4.7Gb it will always choose two discs.. If you know the movie itself without any extras on the disc is < 4.7Gb (dvd decrypter will tell you this) then you can use a ripper, ifoedit and your fav burning software to copy it using only one 4.7Gb dvd-r.
We are VERY VERY wet behind the ears when it comes to DVD burning. I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say "ripping" or "ifoedit" or whatever. Could you talk in Lehmans' terms for us? Do you know what software I can find to burn PS2 games too? Thanks for the help though.
Most playstation 2 games, if not all are on 4.7GB discs anyway. This means you do not need anything special to copy them. You can use Nero Burning Rom, www.ahead.de , or DVD-Decrypter, www.dvddecrypter.com. The only trouble is you will need to get a mod chip for your playstation 2 if you want to play them. (this opens up a whole can of worms of problems - you either have to be happy to do a bit of soldering inside your playstation 2, or pay quite a bit of money to get a plugin modchip that may or may not work for some games. Have a look at www.modchip.com If you are very new to burning DVDs, dont worry - we all started that way at one point. The quickest way to learn is to be prepared to read and try a few things. Start at www.doom9.org they have a great selection of articles from beginners upwards.

I must admit, i don't even own a Playstation 2. But if i did.. i don't think i'd solder in it.. id get someone who's good at that stuff! There are solutions that dont require solder.. but they are not as cheap!
