    Hi,

New to the forums however would like a little advice please.
Have tried a search under various words without anyjoy of locating a thread that can answer my questions. My apologises if there is one out there about this already.

Basically I am new to burning files to DVD, been using various programs to make VCD and files not completing fitting so making two discs. Decided to take the plunge at making a DVD.

Well all went well, used Avi2DVD worked a treat, burnt using dvd decryptor. Worked a treat too and now the film is on a DVD-R and plays in one out of my two dvd players.

From making VCD discs I know that not all players take these types of files so i bought a player that plays EVERYTHING almost.
Well the DVD i made worked on the cheap and cheerful player but not on the expensive Sony. I actually have the SAME file on a DVD that someone else made and that plays on both players.

So what have I done to limit my playback ability on some DVD players?

I used DVD-R Verbatim discs 4.7GB which burnt at 4times speed.

Are the special discs to use that play on all dvd players? cause my Sony player said Wrong Disc Type when I put my disc in but played perfect with the other disc someone else did.

I dont mind it playing on just my player but if i lend the DVD to a mate its really pot luck if it will work or not.

    Any suggestions?

    THANKS

    Sparks

    Iomega burner.

What you mean use another program? You mean use another burning program like Nero

I dont think its the burning though, I am pretty sure its the disc type and what players accept what disc's

    @Sparksii:

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to remember reading (from another thread) that the newer Sony standalone players are being selective in the type of media they recognize. I guess it's Sony's way of fighting piracy, in one form, at least.

What type of media are you using? I wonder if you used Sony brand media if your new (Sony) player will recognize it. Talk about a brilliant marketing strategy (monopoly?).

    ...hmmmm...?

Could be a sly thing by sony.

Its actually ermmm quite old, i would say ermm 3 years maybe 5. Its when Gladiator came out on DVD.

Who converts with AVI2DVD and has DVD's that work on many players? What media do you use?

I was using DVD-R 4.7GB made by Verbatim
