Greetings. Recently I purchased 3 DVD+R DL discs, in order to burn a number of .avi and other media files to DVD disc. I've tried twice to create the discs, choosing Make DataDVD, which seems to use Nero Buring Rom 7.0.8.2. I am using a Sony Vaio FS550, and the DVD drive supports writing to DVD+R DL. I have already used it to burn a number of DVD-Videos successfully, the instructions provided by alkohol (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946). I don't know why this is happening. If I try burning a data DVD using a DVD+R, the files burn successfully, but I get a data verification error at the end of the process. With the DVD+R DL, the burn process fails near the end. Rather than paste the nerohistory files, I've loaded them here: The DVD+R DL burn failure: http://podbaydoor.com/nerohistorydvdplusrdouble.txt The DVD+R data verification failure: http://podbaydoor.com/nerohistorydvdplusr.txt I've read some other posts which suggest the burn speed needs to be slow, but I do not know what my current speed is, or how to slow it down. Any help solving this will be very much appreciated, and i thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Kind regards, Randy.
Hi there. I've been trying to look for firmware updates for this particular drive but unfortunately could not find any. In the mean time, I would try some Verbatim DVD+R DL as I think they are the best dual layer discs. Ritek's are okay I guess but I'm not sure how good they are for DL. You seem to be burning at a good speed for DL (2.4x) Everything seems to be running fine until it gets to the second layer. What % does your DL burns fail at? When it comes to your DVD+R single layer burns... CMC mag's are terrible quality discs. Bulkpaq right? I would suggest getting some Verbatim instead or Taiyo Yudens. If these are 8x discs, you are burning at a good speed. Are you able to playback those discs after they are burned. If you can, I would not worry about the data verification fail. Overall, I would recommend getting some better quality discs, which I think could eliminate your problem. In both cases (DVD+R & DVD+R DL) try some Verbatim.
Hello Nick. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. As noted in the logfiles, the drive is a MATSHITA UJ-831Da. The drive definitely supports DVD+R DL discs. The discs I purchased were "Memorex Double Layer DVD+R DL double capacity single sided", 8.5GB, 2.4X. I am not too technically savvy when it comes to this technology. For example, you noted that I was burning the DVD+R DL's at 2.4, i.e., "Burn process started at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s)" When using Nero, I'm not sure if there is a way to change this setting, if required. I'm not sure at what % the DL burns fail. I've used two of the three discs from the box of three; if you think it would help, I could try again with the third disc, in hopes of being able to see when it happens. Re: the DVD+R discs: yes, they are a bulkpak of 50, and are TDK. So, avoid TDK discs in the future? Yes, I was able to view the DVD+R discs, despite the data verification failures. I will look for Verbatim discs. I would [bold]*really*[/bold] like to understand why the DVD+R DL burns failed. The two discs that failed do not read in the drive. It's very frustrating. As noted, all I was trying to do was to burn a number of .avi files to each DVD+R DL disc. Do you think if I try with Verbatims, the burns will be successful? Again, thank you for taking the time to respond, and help solve my problem, Nick. If you have further advice or suggestions on how to solve this, I would be very grateful. Thank you - Randy
