I've used the cheapest DVD-R to burn in the past with no problem. I bought a new pack recently and it has been a nightmare ever since. I've tried three different brands of different quality on the DVD-R and no luck. The cheap DVD+R work fine.

I have updated drivers, made sure the DMA is on, updated firmware, and stood on my head.

Here's the log and any advice would be much appreciated.

first off edit out your serial # ....... you have it listed in 2 areas..... it starts with 1A20-****-****, hit the icon on the top of your reply that looks like a pen on paper!

3 things I noticed.....your memmory is very low.... do not multitask and better yet add more RAM! That would make a big difference!
Your media sucks, dude. Keep using the cheap stuff and sooner or later you will get caught either having trouble burning because of the inconsistancy of quality media or the burned stuff that you had success with will eventually be unreadable by your players because it's the cheap crap! sooooo you're choice.... and last but not least is that you are using version 6.6.0.18, which is the bug free and stable version of Nero 6.... which is what I use. But, why does it have this:
I would save my serial #, then uninstall Nero, then use the cleaning tools:
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Clean_Tools.html
then reinstall Nero 6.6.0.18, both packages:

    first: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    second: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

and do not install InCD as that will cause conflict in DVD burning!

Thank you IHoe for you wisdom and support. Hopefully, my ignorance will not have allowed my serial number to be pirated by the masses.

I used cheap media for backing up movies that my kids use and thrash. I thought I was saving a couple of dollars for media that I knew would not last.

I have followed all of your instructions for cleaning and reloading, but I am still suffering from the same problem. As of late, I thought that I was using a higher quality media that should work, but to no avail. I can still burn with a dvd+r disc, but the dvd-r does not like it's master.

Any thoughts or ideas are much appreciated.

My only thoughts on this are that older burners do not have the capacity to handle the newer discs that are now being produced...I dont know how old your burner is but it's an idea.

You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

that burner must be old because the latest firmware update is 2 yrs old now! soooooooo Gwendolin is correct about the newer media out there! I bet it would write with 4x media if you can find them now.

I wanted to say thank you for the advise. Since reloading Nero and removing various programs, I am not getting a different error message. I thought you might be interested in reading the new log to see if you have any other ideas. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

    These are poor quality discs, try Verbatim or Sony (made in japan}

it just doesn't like your disk...... Gwendolin is correct! Verbatim is the only Made In Taiwan disk that I would use, but I use Made in Japan disks mostly! make sure you look on the lable of the spindle or box and it say MIJ!
