Hi everyone. I recently purchased a new computer, which included a dual-layer DVD burner.

I tried to use the DVD burner the first time today by burning a movie, attempting to burn a Nero Image (.nrg) by simply double clicking on it.

It remained on 1% for ages, and eventually after some inpatience from myself, I had to restart the computer.

I then tried to use DVD Shrink 3.1 to burn another DVD movie from my HardDrive, burning the .IFO, .BUP and .VOB. However, it remained on 'lead-in' for an hour or so.

It was burning at 4x, however I assumed it could burn up to 16x.

    Computer stats:

    Windows XP Home Edition, SP2
    160GB HDD
    1024MB RAM

The DVD Burner is an LG burner, however I don't know more than that, where can I find more info about it?

    Cheers.

Download DVD Decrypter since you already have DVD Shrink then check out the guides for both listed under the "Guides" tab at the top of the screen... You may also want to make sure your drive has the latest firmware. You can get model number of your drive in Device Manager.

You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager. When you select a specific device in Device Manager and then click the Properties button, you see a property sheet. The property sheet has a General tab. Model info will be here.

    @shazzaTPM -

you mentioned Nero. See if there's anything in the Nero log in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, post the last section (burns append to the log, it's quite easy to distinguish the sections between burns). Make sure you don't post serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

This is the last log in the history file.

Although I don't understand, since it is basically happening with any DVD. Images or files, however I am able to burn CD's fine.

Here are the stats from the program, thanks in advanced.

    Cheers.

i'll flesh out your logfile a little more in a moment, but here seems to be the main culprit -
you haven't 'shrunk' or 'decrypted' the correct files in the first place methinks...

plus you should use latest dvd shrink - 3.2.0.15..

Cheers for the reply. However, what I used Nero for didn't require DVD Decrypter, since I never decrypted the .nrg from a DVD and I got it directly.

What I did use DVD Decrypter for was from other DVD discs, and then used DVD Shrink and it was burning with that.

    Thanks in advance.

    - slightly newer version A104 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1973 but that could keep for another day

    - as i said, there's your main problem. Nero isn't at fault here - it's due to however you constructed the ISO/gathered the movie files..

    - Nero's InCD tends to interfere with standard Nero Burning Rom, i'd uninstall Nero, uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools (google search for Nero Clean Tools) and install Nero WITHOUT inCD.

Thanks, I'm going to uninstall InCD now with that tool.

However, I still don't see what I did wrong. The way I got the files off the DVD was with DVD Decrypter, and it plays perfectly using an emulator, yet I used DVD Shrink to burn these ones.

And the .nrg I got I simply double clicked on it, I did not retrieve the files from a DVD or alter the files in any way.

i only ever use FILE mode for Decrypter, and if any files were missing such as your Nero log showed, i'd be able to run vobblanker or other such (free) tools to correct the pointers to avoid problems such as you have

I still don't understand, why wouldn't Nero inform me with an error message instead of idling on 1%?

problems at lead-in would normally be a sign of crap atrocious media..... download dvdinfopro (free) from www.dvdinfopro.com and run the media you're trying to use thru it's media info check, pasting the details here.

ps you're missing the point re the missing VOB - Nero is moaning that the fileset (in your case an ISO with various files within it) is not compliant - so it refuses to continue. Your iniital NRG file is not correct. You need to start at the bottom and create a correct ISO file, OR use FILE mode in Decrypter, then run something like vobblanker to correct problems such as the missing VOB problem

Thanks for the number of solutions you have left me, I assume things will be good soon.

Here is the info from DVDInfo Pro.

I don't know what half the crap means, but nevertheless!

The newer versions of Nero InCD are not supposed to conflict with Burning ROM yet the Nero log still indicates InCD drivers as possible conflicts. What are they thinking?

The problem here is the missing VOB file. Notice that even though the program "knew" that the files failed the video compliance test, it started the burn anyhow and promptly hung at 1%. Where did you get the DVD files from....Why is a .vob file missing?

CMC-Mag is listed as the disc mfg. These are just going to cause problems sooner or later. Check out what creaky is using in his signature.
