I have been burning dvd's using dvd shrink 3.2. While I was cruising around the net I almost downloaded spyware but my antivirus stoped it. To make sure nothing got through I ran a system sweep and it told me that I had a file wich contained a trojan horse so i deleted it. I tried to burn a dvd and when it reaches the writing part the burn is terminated and I get the error of 1A20-0316-0010-2522-5586-6029. It looks alot like the file the antivirus told me I should delete. I removed and then re-downloaded dvd shrink and the same thing happened. Is the a way to get that file back? Or re-install it somehow? please help

That 'error' is a Nero serial number. Burn with something else.

What other burner would you suggest. Is there a free downloadable burner? Do I have to un-install nero so that burner will automaticly be used.

I uninstalled nero express and installed nero 7 and it still didnt work. I installed imgburn and express burn and they didnt work either. My decrypter is working fine and I am able to watch the dvds and I can still burn audio cds I just cant seem to burn dvds anymore. My working system is windows xp.
    I am stumped.

It is the stock drive in a Gateway model GT5012 personal computer. The serial # is CCT58 110 06640. I tried to use a different burning systems, img burn, burn express, and alcohol 120 and none of them worked either. imgburn wouldnt even get past the formatting disc stage. Is it possible to find the files for my burner in my cpu and then reference them somewhere to what i should have? (if that makes any sense)

There will be no files in your cpu. That is your processor.Just out of interest, if you suspect that you had a virus/trojan, have you turned off system restore?Cos if you didnt then the bugger will still be there.Turn it off, do a scan...in safe mode if necessary.(press f8 on boot up).Mke sure you use nero's clean tool (available on neros site at http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-cleantools.html , for whichever version of nero you had)Bear in mind though that if you use anydvd, then anydvd will have to be reinstalled after the clean. The serail number of your burner doesnt really help,go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager and click on the + next to dvd/cd-rom drives. That should tell you what it is.I note you say that the drive will read but not write to DVD.As you can imagine there are loads of reasons why this could be, my first point would be to swap the drive over with a friends...for starters it saves LOADS of time, especially a reformat/reinstall....when that trojan was removed, other files can be removed with it,and the systematic ticking off of possibles is a nightmare.Do you have enough space on yourhard drive for the temporay files used in the burning process?Have you defragmented?Checkdisked? etc etc etc.Try the drive first and let us know!

First of all I want to thank all of you for taking the time to help me out. Ok, I went to my disk drive and it said the drive was working properly. I checked my mem space and have plenty of it. I ran 3 different anti-viruses (norton, avira, and avast in safe mode and they found nothing. I went to Nero clean tools and downloaded it. I really dont have anyone around me that I could switch drives with. Should I just go buy an external drive and see what happens? I tried to do a system restore. I tried 12 different dates and each time it told me restoration incomplete cannot restore to that date. Everything was closed so I am not sure why it won't restore. (I didnt even know system restore was there till u told me) Now, something I noticed is both dvd shrink, and img burn stop at the same point. Its at the format disk stage. (if that helps)

AHA!!!! bieng unable to use system restore tells us that there are corrupt files in your operating system!!!Only one thing for it and thats a reformat/reinstall.The repair option in XP is pretty hit and miss (well for me anyway...doesnt offer me repair just reinstall most times)

You must back up your data on another drive/usb stick/external drive though (of course)Dont buy a new burner just yet

Ok, so I take it we are talking about that system recovery cd/dvd that I got with my computer. Thank God i know where it is. The disk says put in drive, close everything, restart computer, follow on screen instruction. Besides backing up files on a thumb drive is there anything else i should do, or know. Oh, and when you say corupt files, does that mean I did download a virus/spyware/malware? And if I did why didnt the three anti viruses i have installed not stop it of find it? Is there a better one than the ones I have?

One of the first things i would do is make sure that you have aal the installation serial numbers to the programs that you are reinstalling (especially window if using a windows not manufacturer disc).A sure way of doing this is to download and run belarc advisor http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html.This will record everything thats on your pc including hardware, but most importantly software AND the serial keys!.Back up all your pictures, music word docs etc(this should be a regular job)cos theres nothing worse that losing all your data.I note you stated that you had three antivirus programs installed....you should only ever have one, and one firewall cos they fight against each other causing all sorts of conflicts. As for which one is best jeeez thats a difficult one.I can only go by personal experiance, and that is that a)Norton is shyte cos it takes over your pc,unstable(in updating) misses things, heavy on resources, conflicts with programs, and is a bugger to get rid of.b)McAfee far too resource hungry, missed a lot of things, unreliable.c)AVG, its free....you get what you pay for normally but i found it better than the previous two,d)PCCILLIN....2007 version was easy to use 2008 nags you to hell and slows your pc to a crawl and missed everything,e)Panda..dont even go there.Im currently using Kaspersky which i find to be great, found several naughty bit that my last one (pc cillin) missed. It slows my browsing a bit if you enable everything though. But hey, when you download stuff from off beat sites, you are allowing the data to come to you so your firewall wont stop it, and unless your av is constantly monitoring(which slows your pc) it might not be noticed straight away.I do a forced scan every other day.Cos im paranoid! It does sound to me like you downloaded a trojan which could in itself have corrupted files, and the removal by the av software might have removed some necessary files too.I really think that the reinstall is the best option. Its what i do every three months anyway.Keeps it fresh.Best of luck!
