I made a backup of a dvd-9 using smart ripper, ifoedit and dvdshrink to reduce the movie to less than 4,3 GB. After burning the movie on a dvd-r, three (!) standalone dvd player started the movie and stopped at exactly the same point: After playing ca. 20 min - a few seconds after VTS_01_2.VOB was started (VTS_01_1.VOB can be 650 MB or 1000 MB large, it doesn't matter). Any ideas why? Thanks!!!
If you use DVDShrink you don't need to use Smartripper first. Did you check that the movie was fully burned on your PC?
