I used DVD Shrink and a program called BurnRight to make a copy of a movie on a DVD-R. I have two DVD players in different rooms. It works just fine in one, but not at all in the other. So I tried again using a DVD+R and it doesn't work at all in the same one and the other one doesn't work correctly. BTW, music CDs don't work in the 2nd player either. Whether this could be at all related, I know not. Can anyone help me? The player that will play the DVD-R is a Coby brand and the one that won't is a Symphonic.
chinalily , Welcome to the forum. What you are getting usually is blank media compatibility to the DVD Player. What you are going to have to do is start using different blank media to see what plays in both. I might suggest that you try Verbatim or Maxell if you are in the U.S. as both are decent blank media. You can also go to the site below and put in the name and model number of each drive.. When you do that there will be a list of blank media that the members have tried and what results they got. Now if you are lucky and you get results then compare the results to see if there are similiar brands on both lists. If so then try that brand to see what it does in your player http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
Thanks, I wonder if my DVD player is just too old. The list says that at least some people were able to use Memorex, which is what I used, but they were 4x and one fujifilm that was 2.4x. These were all listed in 2004. Would the different speed make any difference?
chinalily , Memorex uses many different manuf of their disks but the company does not have any quality control. That is why I suggested the other blank media. You can try burning the DVD's at a slower speed try 4X and see if that helps. One of the DVD Players in my house is over 4 years old and it plays everything. Your player might just be worn out and you need to buy another. The prices are fairly inexpensive now but look for one that will play both (+) and (-) DVD's.
