While there are still a lot of players (and even some recorders, plus of course all pc and mac DVD recorder drives) that read/record DVD -R, it is not as stable a format as DVD+R, which is now the de facto standard with most DVD players connected to TVs. So if you're wondering which format to record your movies on, go with DVD+R. It will be around longer into the era of HD DVDs which has just begun. It will also most likely be backwards compatible with the new HD DVD drives much longer than the -R format will be.
not soooooooo....... both are good media, depends on what player you have! My player plays everything..... and I use both DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs and here is a good article on both: http://www.cdfreaks.com/print/article/113 most newer players and recorders will burn both DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs so I wouldn't worry too much about lasting longer or what's going to be with the HD or Blue-Ray disks. Those players will be backwards compatible and will also or should also play CDs and VCDs. I only use DVDR- they say DVD+ booktyped to DVD- works on more players but I've not used any DVD+ yet the DVD- is working just fine for me
This is quoted from a friend on another forum who makes DVDs for people as a profession. He stands strongly behind the -R format. Personally though I use mostly +R as my first burner was +R only and I've yet to encounter any issues....
Dosen't one format run at a constant speed and the other changes the speed as the disc is being read? Which one is which. Don't the call it angular velocity and the other linner velocity? Which one needs a buffer?
