recently someone gave me a dvd-r(4.7gb NOT dual layer) with some tv shows in it. when i played the dvd with vlc media player the length time of the shows added up to 10hours and 45 minutes. i thought vlc mustve made some error but i could confirm that it was actually true and usually when i burn my files it only gives up about 4 hrs so i was wondering if anyone knows how to do that?

Is it ten hours of DVD formatted video or ten hours of AVI files (ie a data DVD).

How is the quality? must be pretty low, with such a high compression...

Yes, I bet you could squash 20 or more hours of material on to one DVD, if you wished, but it wouldn't be worth the trouble, as the more compression you have to use, the poorer the resultant quality.
