DVD - R/RW drive question?????????????

I'm planning on upgrading to a DVD-R+RW drive and would like advice on what the people on this forum think is a good modle??

I was looking at the LG LCDVRW055 Internal DVD+/-RW Drive, the Hewlett Packard DVD400i Internal CD/DVD-RW Drive, and the Pioneer DVR-A06USPK4 Dual DVD+/-R/RW Writer. I heard that HP is a good make and it comes with a software bundle; ArcSoft ShowBiz 2.0, RecordNow, and PowerDVD.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if the bundled software is important to you, then that will obviously influence your decision.

The Pioneer model range is PROBABLY the most popular with those who have been doing this for some time (most experienced) and has a good name in general with respect to:
quality
reliability
firmware upgrades
media support
burning software support
basically the most important aspects.

But, they are NOT THE CHEAPEST, there are plenty of cheap DVD Burners out there, and quite a few faster ones, but the aspects listed above are unknown quantities with them.

Some people are happy with the cheaper ones, some are not.

My PERSONAL recommendation, get a Pioneer (most problems involving a Pioneer get sorted pretty quick in these forums).

Have a browse round the forums and read.

Thanks Drchips, I think from what I've read on this forum Pioneer is probably the one I'm going to go with.

What is a good software package for a DVD burner, or does the burner usually come with a good software package? I don't want anything to do with anything like Easy Cd Creator any more!! Easy CD creator came with my old CD burner; to many problems and in my opinion is very unstable.

The two favourites are Nero and RecordNow, many of the experienced ones use one or the other.

My PERSONAL recommendation is RecordNow Max, it has less frilly and fancy bits than Nero and is a solid performer for burning DVD's.

I use Nero for CD work, but not for DVD.

AVOID ROXIO.

Do NOT install any packet-writing software (InCD, DLA etc. etc)

Your Mileage May vary(tm).

My system works well with dvdx platinum, Dr chips is right don't use certain software as it will corrupt the burning process. You have to get the software/media/burner to suit your needs. I have found that experimenting is good practice. Sometimes annoying, but nevertheless fun! This site does kick ass and there are a lot of people out there who want to help. MARVELLOUS!!
