I hope I am in the right forum for this question, if not, please let me know which one I need to be in. I record movies from the TV onto a DVD-R (Samsung recorder) and my son would like to have some of these movies and his player will only play DVD+R. Soes anyone know how I can do this. I have tried Nero, cloneDVD, and 1clickdvd and they will only let me record to another DVD-R not to a DVD+R. Thanks in advance for your help. Dark-half
your burrner has to burn both formats DVD-R and DVD+R So check the specs on your DVD burrner and see if it burns both formats. If it can then use DVD Decryptor to rip the movie in an iso and then burn it onto a dvd+r disc.
What brand and media code are your +r discs? Let us know the manufacturer of your discs useing this freeware proggy. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ You can use dvd decrypter read ISO, then write ISO. These selections are under the mode tab. Very easy and simple. Mort
I'm using Imation DVD+R. I tried to use the decrypter and at 99% I got a error message. After trying many times I went ahead and aborted. I even tried to ignore the error and that didn/t work either. I am using a Sony dru-510 +/- writer. Thank you all for your help. Dark-half
Make sure the firmware on your burner is up to date. Go into Decrypter then the Tools tab, drive and then check for firmware update. Your burner may not like the media you are using, and it may be burning too close to the edge. Does the disk rip, if so then rip it and run it through Shrink and set the target size to 4200 and then try burning.
Once again I ask who is the manufacturer of you blank disc's, not the name branded on the disc. I gave you the link to a freeware proggy to ID them in my other post. Also as asked by arniebear is your firmware current? The most rescent f/w for your drive is 1.1a. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1597 Mort
Sorry about that, I just plain overlooked that link. Did the firmware and it is up to date. Manufacture is CMC Magnetics Corp. for the DVD+R but I have the movies that I recorded from the tv on Memorex. Does that explain why I'm not getting anywhere? What do you recommend? Thank you for your help> dark-half
How many shows did you record on your disk? My recorder will do up to 8 hrs on a single layer disk, but there is an awful lot of compression involved and my burning programs cannot handle that much video. I do not have a problem copying over using the standard 2 hour. Also, did you rip in file mode, or iso. I found that for copying my recorder disk, iso is better, the material is already compressed. Using iso makes for less pixellation, especially if you have compressed beyond the 2 hour limit.
I won't guarantee this will solve your problem but I would definately try some better dvd+r media. Cmc mag is one of the worst media manufactures out there and causes more problems than any other media that I know of. Even if you were to get a playable copy chances are the longevity of the copy would not be good. Try some verbatum, sony mij, fuji mij, or maxell. You can also order some taiyo yuden or branded ritek ridata online. Note: mij = made in japan. Mort
Some have anly one movie and others have either two or three. I tried ripping using iso mode. The disk that have are ony one movie gets through ripping at 99% and then an error message comes up. All ripped except for about 600 MB. On the others I get the message that the disk is empty. Thanks for your help Dark-half
How long are the movies, did you burn all the way to the edge of the disk, because it does sound as Mort81 stated like a media problem. Memorex are not exactly the best. Do they play on your standalone and your PC? Did you finalize the disk?
Sounds like the disc you are trying to copy (the dvd-r's) has errors on them. This is common with poor quality media. Use dvd identifier and let me know the media code/ID of the dvd-r's you are trying to copy. You can also check for errors useing nero scan disc. Mort
dark-half...did you finalide the disk with the recorder before you tried to copy it? unfinalized disks have problems when trying to copy. this may be your problem.
the disks that I'm copying from are Fugi Film, Fugififm03. Some of the disks have 2 movies and some have 3. didn't burn all the way to the edge on any of them and my recorder auto finalizes for playback. I'll run scan disk with Nero and see if I have errors on them. The disks do play in my stand alone but not showing up on my PC. Thanks again for your help.
If your PC is not reading the files, then there must be something in the file format it does not like. Maybe you can try program isobuster to see if you can retrieve the data. http://www.isobuster.com/
thanks arniebear. I'll download that and see if that will help. I really appreciate the help all you folks have been giving me. dark-half
