    hi there folks.hope somebody can give me some help and advice.i'm trying to back up my dvd collection but having mixed results,sometimes it'll work and sometimes not. i.ve tried various programmes to back up and i'm now wondering if its poor media i'm using.(ritek with a white label dvd-r). i'm considering trying dvd+r,will i be able to playback my backed-up movies on my playstation2 like i can with dvd-r????. any help would be really appreciated.

    Your Ritek should be okay - they're decent media. I have an older ps2 that plays both formats but from what I understand ps2's can be picky w/ media.
    The up side to using +r -is your can booktype to a dvd-rom which makes it even more compatible. Your burner justs needs to support this.
    Make sure you are not burning at max speed - try 4x and that your burners firmware it up to date.
    Post back with the make and model of your burner and current firmware.
    What progs are you using? Oh and what problems are you having -palyback issues?

    Your serial number needs to be editted out in the middle of the log - it's there 2x.
    Okay let's see if we can sort this out.
    upgrade to the latest 6.6.0.16

    Wow - that's not alot. Shut down some processed - no multi tasking

    A nero update and firmware update should take care of this. As for the firmware I couldn't find your model so I don't know if it's up to date. I looked in us & uk at:
    http://www.freecom.com & http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
    You may want to peek also.

    @rog2,

    You still need to sort through the entire log and edit out your Nero Serial # before someone steal it and use it for free. It is still in there somewhere in the middle of your log. I noticed you just edited the first part only, but there are still 2 parts in the middle that has your Nero Serial.

    Other than what binkie7 had suggested, all I can say is you need to get rid/uninstall all of InCD and its products from your computer. InCD and Nero don't get along, it has been confirmed in the past. A lot of Nero users whom got InCD on their computer always conflicted with nero, thus it's producing"coasters".

    Go here http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Clean_Tools.html you need to download both Nero's General CleanTool and InCD General CleanTool to completely wipe out both your current Nero and InCD. Once your done with downloading them, just run them each at a time. Restart your computer, now download the latest from "Nero Ultra (6.6.0.16)" package #1 & #2 only. Now get yourself another high quality media such as Taiyo Yuden "Made In Japan" (including the 8X DVD+R Fuji & Sony "Made In Japan), Verbatim or Maxell (Made In Japan only) and try to do another back up. Hopefully this time you'll have a successful backup.

    Again other than what binkie7 had mentioned, I didn't see your Freecom dvd burner at rpc firmware forum at all. The closest that's similar to yours is a Freecom DVD+R/-RW 16B9 only. Go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=109 and check it out for yourself, if it's not yours then don't update the firmware because you don't want it to mess up yours. However, if you're able to find a current firmware for yours, then you need to update it.

    Hey rog2
    To edit the post in the line that has the date & time to the right you'll see a piece of paper and pencil. Click that on - it will bring it up - just remove/change whatever you need to.
    I just clicked on the link alkohol gave and it came right up. What's happening?
    As for your burner - call their tech support & find out the deal. Your model # is nowhere to be found on their site.
    Let us know how it turns out!

    @rog2,

    Have you done what binkie7 and I suggested? You can't just uninstall InCD via Add/Remove because sometimes it still leaves a bit or 2 pieces behind, you need to get "InCD General Clean Tool" from here http://ww2.nero.com/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html and then run the clean tool to completely wipe out InCD from your system. You'll also need to get "Nero's General Clean Tool" to wipe out Nero as well. Go here http://ww2.nero.com/enu/General_CleanTool.html and download it, then run it to rid of all Nero's products. Now reboot your computer and download the latest from Nero 6.6.0.16 #1 & #2 only. Once you're done with reinstall Nero 6.6.0.16, then try to do your backup again with another high quality media.

    You really need to re-edit your log, your Nero Serial # is still in there (somewhere close to the middle section, but near the top). To edit your post, click on the "little pencil & paper icon" on the right hand corner just a little above your post. I wouldn't be surprise if someone had already taken your serial by now.

    rog2,
    In your original log you also had INCD install. Do not install it as it will give you problems w/ Burning DVD's

    @rog2,

    I guess finally you edited the serial out. Just remember to delete (edit) out your Nero serial in prior to posting in here alright. Let's take a look at your new log now.

    this is an old version, update it to the latest Nero 6.6.0.16

    I don't know if you have the latest firmware on your FREECOM dvd writer, but I tried to look for it and couldn't find anything on that model. You really need to google around the net to see if there's any new firmware for you bunrer, then update it. Updating your firmware can be very useful (helpful), it will be more compatible with other blank media and codes.

    This probably be ok for burning, but if you can, then try to free up more memory. The more you have the better the burning and performances you'll gain.

    Again, I think may be your dvd writer doesn't recognize this kind of media and or it doesn't like it. A firmware update should solve this.

    Try to burn at least 4X on your next backup. It is recommend that 4X is the best for all burnings. On the other hand, it won't hurt to try other high quality media such as Taiyo Yuden (Fuji & Sony DVD+R "made in japan) and Verbatim in the DVD+Rs format.

    Your welcome! It's what aD is here for!
    I'd still call Freecom's tech support and gets this sorted out. Their always coming out w/ new media and you'll need to stay on top of it by updating your firmware.
