I have read a lot here about +/-R, but not about -R/W. I have purchased DVD recorders that I'm wanting to use to record TV off air, but after I watch the programs I want to be able to reuse the discs like I did in the past with my VHS tapes. I don't know what brands are better, and I have had a lot of problems with the recorder starting the recording and then stopping with a "defective disc" message. I have been using Ridata, and wonder if they are substandard. Also, I have read on other threads that using a label is a bad idea, but when using reusable discs like the -R/W's if I use a sharpie it's a big hassle to get it off and rename the programs, so the label seems like a better idea. I also wonder if I should just record the programs on a normal, good quality -R and just trash it when I'm done watching, since I won't likely want to see those programs again. I had things all set up on VHS, but that is a dying (dead?)technology, and I want to move over to DVD but it has been a BIG hassle! There isn't much worse than coming home looking forward to watching a program to find it frozen in the recorder with a "Defective Disc" comment on the screen. Is there any way to check the discs before using them to see if they are defective? I am open to any and all suggeations, as I'm about to go out and stockpile VHS tapes and return these DVD Recorders! If this has been discussed elsewhere please direct me to that forum. I used the search and didn't find anything with answers to these specific questions. Thanks for your help, Fryerider
The RW disc are not as good as they say they are. 1000 re-writes yea right after about 10 -15 writes they go bad just get a stack of 50 Verbatim DVDR- (on sale 14.99 a stack of 50 thats 30 cents each) and burn away
Ok, I really appreciate your opinion. How about Sony discs? Are they as good as the Verbatim? And I guess if I don't want to keep them it's a small price to trash them. Can anyone tell me if there is any way to test the discs for defects before trying to use them so I don't get any more "defective disc" notifications and end up with a coaster?
