DVD-R Wont work, but DVD+R will???

    We have a bad combo-DVD-VCR-TV thing and I just noticed it wont play DVD-Rs but will play DVD+Rs! I thought DVD-R was supposed to be compatible with everything! Is there a setting I can change with the built in player or will I have to buy a standalone?

    If it doesn't support the -R format it just doesn't, if it were the other way around we could booktype the +R discs to increase compatability but I'm afraid you are out of luck with the -R's.
