    Bonjour people

I have a pretty good idea of what DVD+R's are good to buy, but I'm unsure what DVD-R's are recommended? My burner does not support booktyping so getting DVD-R's would be pretty smart. I burned a couple good +R's for my Uncle but they wouldn't play in his DVD player, lol:(. Would Verbatim be a smart choice? I'm a bit hesitant even buying those because I've read there has been some people reporting that some Verbatim -R's were CMC Mags:(. All the -R's I have in my house are CMC Mags:(. (Maxell, Sony-R's)
I'd really really like some good ones. Can anyone help me out:D

    Mike.

Verbatim Advanced AZO, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell (made in Japan) should do the trick.

I've had no luck with DVD + R playing in a standalone. I have found that using DVDShrink and single layer DVD - R works best. I have only backed up a couple of DVD's so far, but they have all worked. I had NO LUCK with DVD + R DL. I'd like to keep trying, but I don't need any more coasters. I may try a DVD - R DL to see how that works. I want to be sure I'm doing it correct so I don't waste another disc.

i agree with aabbccdd on the booktype.

and as long as you are using Verbatim DL's.. you should have no issue.

Forgive the newbie type of question. What do you mean by booktype? I have a couple of DVD +R DL discs. Where do I set the booktype? I've just been using DVD Shrink to copy the DVD then put a blank in and copy it.

Setting it to DVD - ROM should let it play in a standalone?

Thanks and again sorry for such a newbie question.
