I burned a movie using a Maxell DVD-R. I can watch it on my PC but it will not play in my DVD player? Do I need a special DVD player for them to work?

No it will be your player. There are a few things...

    1) Your disk is a DVD-r which can't be booktyped to DVD-ROM (like a dvd you would buy.) so your player won't recognise it as well.

    2) Are you sure your player can read burnt disks, eg, DVD-/+r?

    3) How old is your player? If quite old, it may not be compatible (kind of like point 2.)
