[bold]UPDATE 06/08/2006:[/bold]Added new pics of transcoders for the comparison. All processes were full disc, same movie as previous, which resulted to about 51% compression for each transcoder. Transcoders, E.T., and any special options used are listed below DVD-RB logs. Enjoy

Well, I wanted to test out DVD-RB with the newly supported encoder and thought I would share my results. I tested on Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (Full Frame, Region 1, NTSC). I compared my results with CCE SP and ProCoder 2.0 as well. My system specs are below, but I now have an Epox 939 Nforce 3 Ultra mobo, CPU overclocked to 2.3 GHZ, and 1 gig of Kingston Hyper X DDR400 @ 210.

I’m no Expert, but the results from this newly supported encoder look very good in my opinion. And the times are just barely slower than ProCoder 2. Granted, I don’t have the fastest system on the block, and a dual core CPU would definitely help my ProCoder times, I’m pretty pleased with AutoQ. I arbitrarily chose 3 passes for AutoQ because that is what I chose for CCE, not the best reasoning, but I wasn’t sure how many passes would be sufficient. Hopefully 3 was a good starting point, either way, seems like a promising encoder, especially considering that this movie was compressed to 51%, and possibly even better, it is free :)

Looks good and I think the new Enc does a good job, but looking at the pics of Gandolf and comparing, I think the CCE looks most like the original. If you look at the brown shadings on the cheeks and under the eyes, it looks a little faded on the Procoder and AutoQMat. But that is just my opinion. Thanks for putting them up as an example :)

arni bear look closely @ the blocks between gandalf's staff & the lake behind! I think pro2 took a couple years off him :)(lean back and look)

I alway's look for nasties in the original & then look to the encodes to see how they handle it.

also the dust given off of the monster hair(upper, left) in the original pic.

congrat's on the excellent work ebega!

I think it would be good to do benchmarks between free encoders (AutoQMatEnc and HC-Encoder)

Did you guys just want pic comparisons and time comparisons like I have here? If so, I could just run a session of HC, I still have all of the other info saved. Let me know if you guys want that, I should have the time today.

I would like both, if not too much trouble. And thanks again for doing these it is really great to be able to compare :)

Okay guys….updated the results to include HC, exact same movie and settings, done on “best” setting. BTW, I don’t mind doing this at all, it is the very least I can do, considering all of the help and knowledge I have acquired from this site and its great members. Thanks all.

Thanks, ebega. Still looking at Gandolf I say the HC looks pretty good, I am comparing the marks on his nose to the original and they are very close. I think the CCE sharpens the original a tad. I know L8ter will object but I rate the Procoder at third and AutoQMat at fourth. But that is just my eyes and preferences, I wear big old glasses anyway [IMG]

first let me fully appologise for posting this in one of the truely helpful and greatest threads @ AD (as they seem to be getting rare here)

but I thought all involved in this thread may want to know and I think it's a great group that I have come to know at least a little and wanted to say bye,

    so bye

I pray that you forgive me ebega I think your work here was marvelous :) but as you can see there is only a small number actually interested in the details of such a helpful thread know that those posted in this thread are probably some of the greatest open minded people you will find here.

as in the LOTR there are evil forces @ work here and I thought all should know.

It is sad when members leave, and it is only right that those who like and admire share their their own kind words of encouragement. brobear along with Sophocles has done much to aid those who have used RB, long before there was a forum. I know I had my own troubles and posted and was helped by them in the beginning. When someone feels strongly about an issue it is hard to stay silent, and expression is always a good thing as long as the intent is not to harm others. IMO there was no malicious intent in L8ter's post, only to say goodbye to a friend he respected.

    @ebega

Still think the CCE looks best, lol. Thanks again for your comparisons.

what did you use for vbr bias and quality precision for CCE?

    Great work ebega

I am currently doing some tests for myself with CCE, Procoder 2, HC18, but I am also doing tests with transcoders
Clonedvd2, dvdshrink, Nero recode 2, 1click dvd copy pro. I am using 3 films stephen kings I.T 192min King Kong 187min and LOTR (rotk) 192min. It is going to take me a long time as I dont have much spare time, but I am looking forward to seeing the results.

    Keep up the good work.
