    Hi there,
With the upcoming World Cup (and the fact that I live on the West coast of America) I'm going to need something to record the games...I don't want TiVo just yet. Right now I have a Philips DVP 642 player and am very happy with it, it plays most of the avi.s and DivX I throw at it... I want a DVD recorder that will do the same, and can be easily programmed to play all region DVDs.
    So...any suggestions????

Depends on what you want to spend. I can reccommend the panasonic es20, burns great. Highest level input is s-video. Playback is, well, good with component, and progressive scan. But mediocre with s-video. Matter of fact I bought the 642 like you have just for playback. Look at cnet, and a do a google for reviews. Seems like there is the next, best, every other day.

The new model PHILLIPS 3390 37 will handle all your needs.
    Divx DVDR+ or - DVDRW + or - jpeg CDRW MP3

Thanks very much you guys...I'll look into the Philips, I already checked out the Pioneer but I saw it got some duff reviews. I'm starting to lean towards a DVR...in the meantime I'm going to opt for the DVR deal that Comcast offers ($10 extra per month) for the duration of the World Cup. Any DVRsuggestions too?
    Thanks again.
