Okay, Im finally going to upgrade and get rid of my VCR and Im looking at either getting one of these 2 options. Anyone have any advice on which would be better? Im leaning towards the DVD recorder bc I can save the content I record on DVDs. I see some even come with a hardrive. If thats the case then is there any advantage that a DVR would have over it? I noticed that the DVRs are cheaper (or free with my cable service) but they come with a monthly subscription cost. Besides that is there any reason why I would consider picking one up instead? Thanks

I prefer the DVD Recorder. I don't care for the monthly fees either.

I have a samsung dvd recorder on one of my tv's. Would rather have one with built in hard driver of at least 160 gig.

On my home office computer, I've installed two hauppage video cards that I've connected to my tv cable system and and using a third party software package "BeyondTV" have my own DVR. I can record or watch with pause capability a total of three channels simultaneously. Works great. I then have a couple of inexpensive shareware programs to strip the commericials and can either burn to dvd from my hard drive or watch the shows on my computer.
