dvd recorder with tivo

Im looking for a standalone recorder that will funtion similiar a sky+ box. As i do not have sky the ability to time slip record and choose what to record via a embeded tv guide is mainly the functions im looking for. I have some old vhs footage that i would also wish to convert to dvr-. I was looking at the panasonic E85 but have been turned off it by the problems i read and the lack of panasonics response.
