Hi Folks, Apologies if this has been answered somewhere else or is in the wrong thread.... I have started to back up my region 1 DVD's removing the region code etc using DVD shrink and DVD decryter... When using DVD shrink I recieve a message informing me that I can only shrink region 1's a certain number of times.... Question is, is there any way arround this so I can backup region 1's until my little hearts content... Many thanks for your time....
I haven't heard of this before. Are you sure the error message is coming out of Shrink? The reason I ask is that if you don't have a region free drive (region free firmware in other words) or software to make it effectively region free, like AnyDVD (commercial) or DVD43(free for older version), you have to change the region on the DVD-ROM to rip a movie from a different region. You can only reset the region code 5 times, and no there isn't a way around this. The message you got was probably just Windows telling you that you only have X changes left. Oh yeah, there's one more thing you have to worry about, at least with Region 1 DVDs (maybe others - I don't know), and that's RCE (Region Code Enhanced) protection. RCE protection is designed to detect region free drives and will treat Region 0 (which means all regions) as an incorrect region as well. It can be stripped out, but you have to be able to rip the DVD first. If you have a lot of R1 DVDs you probably have some with RCE protection and your best bet may be to get a separate DVD-ROM and set it permanently to R1. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]In the beginning the Universe was created.
