I have an acer laptop with a Matshita UJ-840D 1.00 Rewriter which is now refusing to read rewriteable media. I use TDK DVD-R, when I put it in the drive, my laptop will recognise the disc is there but tell me that the disc has 0 bytes of free space and 0 bytes of total space.

    What can I do?

first of all the disk (TDK DVD-R) is not a rewriteable. It's blank media that can be written on once. a REWRITEABLE disk is a DVD-RW. I would disregard the 0 byte thing (windows is funny sometimes) and just write on the disk using your software. If your software has a problem recognizing your disk then I would be worried.
