Purchased a DVD RO5 at walmart on clearance...no remote or power source. I knew I had a cord at home that would work but had no idea it was going to be impossible to find a remote. I've called Walmart and spoken to two people there. Was given two ILO phone #'s to call by an associate at the store, but they didn't pan out. Purchased 4 universal remotes, no luck. Last person I spoke to said b/c its a recorder I probably won't find a remote. Can anyone tell me if I have any hope of finding one, or do I have a dvd recorder I can't use? [bold]TIA![/bold] jaye
The ilo R05 and the cyberhome 1600 are the same machine and the remotes are exactly the same except for name. Most supplyers will not have an exact rplacement. In many cases the cost is high, some $35.00 plus shipping. You may find one on ebay using Ilo Recorder or Cyberhome Recorder. Sometimes you can purchase a non working unit with remote . There was two such remotes on ebay for about $10.00 but that was a few weeks ago WalMart has some replacement remotes at a decent price that [MAY] work the Cyberhome or ilo. I say MalMart because of a possable return
Thank you! I'll start checking out Ebay and Walmart right away. I figure I got the DVD recorder for $50, so if I have to bite the bullet for $35 I guess thats the way it goes...won't buy anything on clearance again without the remote. LOL! Jaye
I don't think a 05 at $50 is worth paying another $35 for a remote.[my opinion] An 04 Yes. There are good buys for the 05 but they are used. Cyberhome made the 05 for WalMart. they are not making units and I believe they are under a lawsuit. WalMart cannot supply any parts or items for them. They most likely didn't tell you that. I would take the 05 back and give MalMart a ration over this remote issue. WalMart will take it back and certanly exchange it. I would say get a unit with a HDD [Hard drive] You will find it much more usefull. WalMart is selling such a unit. A polaroid with 80gb HDD for under $200 and I've heard some good reports but do not have one Someone else may chime in with sugestions The 05 is Ok but has problems and can be an agravation and bummer if you can't fix it yourself. This is just for info I Have a LiteOn 5045. Two ilo RHD04,[80gb HDD] Two ilo R04 and a 05 and a 1600. [he 04 is made by LiteOn]. I would do about anything to keep the LiteOn amd 04 alive. The 05 and 1600 I would throw away if major problems arose' I bought the 05 for $10 and the 1600 for $15 both with remotes and did minor repair.
Thank you Herb for all the great info. After reading your first post I went hunting for the remote on Ebay...along the way I started reading reviews on the 05 and was very disappointed. I agree, its not worth buying the remote. Unfortunately I won't be able to return the 05 to Walmart, its past their policy return date. I'm going to go check out the Polaroid and LitOn you spoke of. I'd rather chaulk off the $50 I paid and get a better unit. And here I was trying to save money by buying the Ilo on clearance...go figure. DVD recorders are something I'm not at all familiar with. I was buying it in hopes of coverting my old VHS and 8mm family tapes to DVD. The guy at Walmart said I was better purchasing the DVD recorder seperate and using with my VCR and camcorder than buying a complete DVD/VCR unit. So, its been frustrating...by now I was hoping to do some transferring and instead still trying to find a DVD recorder. Would you recommend the Polaroid DVD burner for transferring my tapes or a complete DVD/VCR unit? Also, I have a DVD burner on my laptop. Would I be able to use that with my VCR to transfer the tapes? I'm so clueless when it comes to this type of thing. Thank you Jaye
WalMart should have told you that the 05 was no longer avail. and same for the remote which they cannot supply. policy or not they should take it back. I can not recomend a unit as I use the ilo 04 and liteOn 5045. The specific models are no longer in production. I cannot recomend these older used units as they can be problems. You mention copy home recordings and copy VHS tape With the poloriod or other units you should not have problems with the Home recordings. Ddubbing [copy VHS tape] and they are commercial tape that you own you could run into CP {copy protection] in the form of Macrovision, that will prevent a copy. If so the 05 will not do this as most other NEW units. PS Geting a Combo VHS-DVD unit will not work as I do not know of any such unit will copy VHS to DVD [f protected
