Does the registry deletion entries of upper and lower filters work on vista home premium, i see that you need delete both of those to restore your dvd rom? i upgraded easy share today, and unistalled i tunes, and the dvd rom is missing, device manager fails to fix it. vista home premium 32 bit, amd 64 athlon x2, 2 g ram, 150 hd sata, 160 sata storeagem 250 ext hd, on board nvida 6150 le i believe thanks
I installed i tunes for my grandaughter over Christmas as they were not able to do it on dial up, , i tunes really messes up your registry apparently? Then after uninstallling itunes, and upgrading easyshare, the dvd rom was gone. I did not unhook the dock while doing easy share upgrade, did it mess up the dvd rom? I don't really want to go there again, but easyshare is not functional now, and was not working right before i upgraded, it worked fine until i went to burn a dvd and no dvd rom. thanks then i "remembered system restore"
You were lucky sys restore worked,i've found it a waste of time on my xp machines, the amount of times it came back with "unable to restore,no changes were made" ,solved it by using ghost & acronis imaging software,my advice to you would be think about investing in an imaging software, you'll know why i'm saying this when it happens or at least always, always backup your data on a regular basis
thanks i've never used those, i have used sys restore different times for other reasons a few months ago, and it always worked, i think i should have disconnected all devices when upgrading easy share, but did not, but Itunes 8 did a lot of changes and when uninstalling it it could have happened, will look into your comments thanks
Both are imaging software made by competing companies is why they won't restore each others archives, however there's a lot more to them both than just straight imaging, they can restore any folder or item from that image or archive, they also allow you to browse thru those images to see what's in them as well as being able to mount them, tho i've have'nt tried mounting one yet, they both can be set to create incremental backups, kinda like system restore except if you get an infection the virus can't corrupt them once they're made,i won't advocate one over the other as they pretty much do the same job as well as each other you'll find most will say get this or that, usually due to preference, whether you bother to get a copy of either is none of my business & perhaps syst restore in vista has improved i just thought i'd better mention it as both have saved my bacon & more than paid for themselves, anyway if you decide to at some later date & need help with an imaging issue, use the link below if no one in here can help, radified can help with all imaging software & it's free http://radified.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl ps: the best time imo to start imaging is straight after a reformat, that way you can create a one time backup of the OS before you start adding crap to it..lol..that way you always have an image that's clean & uncluttered,ok perhaps a few vital apps & updates before you do but you get the picture pps: did you check at apples website for itunes removal tool assuming there is one,you could always use ccleaner to rid any stray registry entries, but create a restore point before deleting anything
Well it's not over, i tried using media classic player being i don't have easy share with quicktime to play some .mov files tonight, but media player is giving an error message, somethibng about nero splitter not found, so apparently either eaay share up grade "not up to date now after sys restore" or i tunes has corrupted the video area also. i think i saw on kodak to remove burning software before kodak up grade which i did mot do, so evidently i need uninstall kodak easy share, noero, go to apple, use their utility, plus nero's cc cleaner? system is working , except the video files i have ar .mov files so will not play unless i convert them all? thanks late, typos may appear
ccleaner is a free registry cleaner tool regularly updated, you'll find it mentioned quite a lot round here but is not related to nero k-lite may be a better option it also contains media player classic as well as a bunch of codecs , as players go i'm not aware of any movie or music file it can't play that sounds odd about kodak wanting you to uninstall burning software wtf would you need to do that for (it installs to it's own folder like any other software),unless it wants you to remove the old kodak version first, since it is upgrading not updating,by rights if there is a compatability issue with burning software it should tell you on install i would'a thought system restore would've taken you back to before you updated or whatever restore point date you used, any changes made after that restore points date won't be there anymore
well this was an interesting day, about an hour and a half with kodak phone support, registry deletions, file renames, uninstall kodak, remove kodak files and folders, all programs were disabled under msconfig, disc cleanup, kodak cleaner, re enabled when done under startup, new version downloaded and installed, had to reinstall quicktime to play the .mov files {until i get a new camera}, then i got a double entry under windows update xml core 4 pak update, didit twice until i did a google, called kodak again but i got a bad tech this time he blamed msoft, so i hung up on him told him i'd call back and talk top someone who didn't call me names, then i rebooted after another google and microsoft search update does not appear now. soooooooooooo oh yes, all devices were disconnected from the pc while doing this, printer, scanner, camera dock until tomorrow thanks
