I have noticed that my dvd rom is scratching any discs I put in there to make copies on my dvd burner drive. I put a brand new movie I bought in to make a copy and the copy had no scratches but my new movie did. Does same when make a copy of a copy or copy a music cd? Do I need to claen it or take it in to be fixed? How do I clean it? Thanks

Have you made sure there are no snags in your drive, or little bits of dirt. Because, remember, your drive is spinning at over 30000 rpm's or something, so you have to bear in mind that any obstruction, no matter how small will cause a scratch.

How would I do that? I opened the drive but I can't see anything ... it looks clean but I am not really sure where I am to look?

What kind of scratches, circular like its spinning or across the surface in a line?? Circular could be from dirt like suggested or possibly too much wobble in the drive (meaning it needs service or replaced). Straight line scratches are usually from the tray going in or out. Possibly the tray slide area is going bad. Depending on how old the drive is, its may be cheaper and faster to just replace it with a new one.

They look more straight with a little curve to them, definitely not circular....I got this computer in January, but I have used it an awful lot--probably more than most---should I call Dell to come look at it or try one of those cleaning discs first? It should be under warranty still.

If under warranty let Dell deal with it. Thats why you have a warranty.
