    Hello,

    I need to replace a DVD-ROM.

Does the speed (16X) or quality need to be top notch to get the best ripping? Getting ready to burn with a DVD+RW burner.

I hear Toshibas are good, but expensive.

Any other good ones to check out?

    Thanks,

    Steve

I got a liteon 16x dvd rom for ~40 bucks recently when I noticed an ancient dvd rom I was using for rips/reading dvds started to flake out on me. PCConnection.

According to the specs it reads -R/-RW/+RW but doesn't say it reads +Rs, although I tried a +R yesterday and they can read +Rs too.

Kinda noisy though. When it starts off it sounds like a freakin' jet engine. Must be because it is 16X...
