I back up my movie collection using my Pioneer 107 to rip and burn . My question is this would I be able to do it any quicker using a seperate DVD rom to rip or would it take the same kind of time. If quicker what DVD rom to buy (must come in black)

If you use a hacked firmware for your 107 then no, you won't get any additional speed with a ROM. If you don't want to install a hacked firmware then yes, a ROM will speed things up quite a bit.

I prefer to use a ROM anyway to keep the wear and tear to a minimum on my burner. The Lite On LTD-166 is a sweet little ROM that comes in black and can be had for around $30.

I'd reccomend the extra drive -- had enough bad experience with hacked dvd firmwares ... sigh :p
