    1. Wrong fourm.

    2. It's not Backup Launcher, it's that the Wii is sensitive to what discs it tries to read. In general DVD-RW will not work.

Consensus is Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R.

Some people have had moderate success using DVD+R by booktyping.

It depends on the wii. Some wii's will read damn near anything while others are EXTREMELY picky.

Well, I just made a coaster using TDK DVD+R discs. I'll be going to the store tomorrow to get some -R discs to try out. Will post my results.

    ????
If I'm reading this thread correctly, it's about which media works and which doesn't work. I was just posting my results.

Comments on the media is fine but the rest of your comments aren't.

As I said in the first reply to this post, I have not seen any reports that DVD+RW will work in the Wii.

I have not tried it personally because of the low chance of success and the fact that DVD-R blanks are so cheap.

Because of the low chance for success of a DVD-RW working, IMHO it makes little sense to even try it since if it doesn't work, you can never be sure if it's the media, the burn, or the .iso.

ok guys and gals with concern for media type. I keep seeing this posted everywhere. The answer to your question is YES, the will will read any dvd type. I have at least 50 games on +r media and over 100 on -R, all work perfect. If the booktype on your burning software doesnt match the disc type then it will not burn correctly and therefore the nintendo will give you a read error. Also make sure you know the region of this game that you are downloading because if you are loading a (pal) game which is europeon region then you must change the settings in your backup launcher to read the disc or else it will load all messed up. Hope this helps .

Let me see if I have this right- when I burn the images to the DVD's, no matter what media I'm using(+R or -R), they should all be "booktyped" to DVD-ROM? Also, when I start burning the image, should that option appear just before burning?
Not quite sure if I'm getting this "booktype" thing.

DVD-R can not be booktyped. So the booktype settings do not apply to DVD-R media.

DVD+R should be booktyped to DVD-ROM for better compatibility.

Some burners automatically booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM. In this case you do not have to manually set the booktype since it is automatically done for you. Some burners do not booktype DVD+R by default so you will need to manually booktype the DVD+R media to DVD-ROM.

So find out if your burner auto-booktypes or if you manually have to booktype DVD+R media.

Depending on the burning software will depend on how you booktype. If you are using IMGBurn then the booktyping option is the little open book icon at the bottom right hand corner of IMGBurn. Use this option to booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM if you manually have to booktype your media.

yes larrylje is accurate. default itll be set at dvd-r, thats y people have been sayng only -r media works cause when they try a +r they dont change there booktype and the burner doest do an accurate job. ok as far as your confusion about booktype, if you are using imgburn which i recommend then when you load a dvd on the right side of the program itll give u a description of it, and in that description itll give you the booktype, so jus make sure your disc matches that booktype, nothing has to be changed for -r discs as they are set by default
