My question is do DVD-RW discs need to be formatted? And if so how do you do that.
I just got my dvd burner a Toshiba sd-5022
and I burn dvd-r fine but did a dvd-rw and even when Nero reported a sucessful burn it is not recognized by windows so now I can't even erase it! When I put a new dvd-rw in the light on the drive never goes out windows does not recognize it and if I double click on it it either acts like there is nothing in the drive or says it is not formatted. I have searched for hours and not seen anywhere where people are talking about formatting dvd-rw's or how to do it. I have Nero and see no where in there about formatting. Can someone please help me with this as I don't want to waste any more discs.

Well, the answer to your question is quite simple. If you look closer at the bottom on Nero there is a "more" tab click it and it will say configure, disc info and of course "Erase Disc" make sure you have your dvd-rw drive selected at the top. Click erase Disc and Presto. If by chance that doesn't work right click on the icon of the Dvd-rw drive and click format disc. You might need DLA installed which comes with RecordNow. I would recommend trying different dvd burning software and many have the ability to format your dvd-rw media, and make sure your drive is supported.
