Hi all. I have just taken out my old cdrw drive from my packard bell computer and replaced it with a NEC ND3540 dvd/rw. There is no power at all it seems (the tray will not open). I tried the 'add new hardware' but my comp does not list my new drive at all. I read the stickies but I still can't find a soloution. the NEC did not come with any extra cables so I'm thinking that as my comp never had a dvd/rw on it before it needs different wiring?.
any help for a total noob would be greatly appreciated

    premier74 ,
When you took the CD Drive out all you had to do is connect it up the same way that it was connected before. The CD Drive should have had a power cable ( small white plastic ) connected to it and the other connection goes to the IDE Channel.
Take the drive out and try the drive in a friends computer. If it does not work there then the drive could be bad and needs to be returned

    thanks for the advice mate.
I finally managed to get power but now it will not read any cd's. Nero recognises the writer but when I try to burn anything It asks me to insert a blank cd. Also when I put in a cd or dvd original it does not recognise it. All the correct drivers are installed though I hav'nt updated the firmware yet due to warranty issues. I will try it on a mates comp when i get the chance unless there are any other suggestions?

I just tried and the link comes right up. Do you have Adobe Reader installed so you can view pdf files?
